last week we got a pressure washer from b&q so we could do the flags and clean out the late dexters shed... it worked first time but when i fired it up this afternoon it kept dying ,no pressure or owt ... so off we went to b&q to take it back and ready for an argument they said no problems as they basically knew it was a shit model... we upgraded for a hozelock one....fired it up and all was well even tho it wasnt as powerful but then my wife tapped me on the back and pointed out the victoria falls coming from my overflow pipe!!!  yikes! i shot up the ladders and peered into the tank it was filling up at a rate of knots and the overflow seemed to be sucking the water as it tried to get in ....so i'm thinking the pressure washer is draining my tank at an enourmous rate therefore giving me a huge bill ....

so that one is going back and its de-mossing the flags by hand...so i thought i'll build the new bbq the wife got yesterday and lo and fucking behold NO SCREWS WASHERS NUTS ETC..   i have had a bad day ....the morning was fine though, car booting and pub lunch.andno work tomorrow.

It's April, so our meat-eating weirdo neighbours have started wafting huge clouds of grey and white smoke over one another's washing already, like they do every year. Must try to get the clothes in off the line before 5.30pm and remember only to do washing on a weekday from now until the end of August.

A different neighbour was barbecueing today over his next-door neighbour's washing.

The consumption of flesh in large quantities inspired me to prepare a low-carbs salad with three different types of quorn meat substitute with two poached eggs on top. I think protein-rich dinners are going to be on the menu more often so long as this outdoor cooking fad continues around me.

I prefer Soylent.

Veggie tree hugging wackos. You can't beat a good steak cooked on the barbie with some sausages and burgers for aperitifs.

Pressure washers use a minimum of 3l a minute. My big petrol one runs through the water at 8l a minute. I live in Scotland though so we don't have water meters. However, I should note that it's raining again so there's no need for such money grabbing monstrosities.

An aperitif is a drink. You meat-eaters are freaky with your bovril martinis and minced beef margaritas.

Something Fishy

Seems everyone stayed in to BBQ today, out walking the Lizard coasts and it was dead.. perfect weather but dead and yet I could smell BBQ everywhere in town.

We bought our first ever barbecue yesterday (well, bought it a while before, but took until yesterday for it to be delivered while we weren't at work.

Thanks for the tip - we'll have to try quorn/vegetable protein burgers with eggs on top.  We tried sausages, burgers, (quorn) steaks, apples wrapped in foil, aubergines and corn on the cobs in foil so far.

Don't do corn on the cob in foil — get them with the leaves on. Soak in water for an hour or so, fold back the leaves, generously butter the corn, fold the leaves back into place, tie the top with string and bung on the barbecue. The corn will simultaneously steam and fry in the butter. Serve with a eye-wateringly hot chilli or piri piri sauce. (The corn is quite sweet, so you want a vinegary or citrusy chilli sauce, not a sweet one.)

Also try: char-grilling thick slices of aubergine (or courgette) and serve with feta that's been crumbled and mixed with finely chopped chillies and fresh mint.

Alternatively: top and tail large sweet red peppers. Split in half lengthways and de-seed. Lightly oil both sides and cook on the BBQ until the skin side blackens and can easily be peeled off. Grate carrot and good strong cheddar into a bowl, mix with a tablespoon or so of mayonnaise, add a lot of black pepper. Whack a dollop on one end of the strips of pepper and roll up.

Lastly: take BIG field mushrooms. Lightly oil the 'outside' then invert and generously butter the inside. Place on the grill (oiled side down). The butter will melt and the mushrooms will fry from the inside. If you're really throwing caution and your waistline to the wind, crumble blue cheese on top right at the end so that it softens and melts a little.

(I love barbecuing, and I know a lot of vegetarians...!)

Wowsers, Jim, I'm not a huge fan of BBQ, but that menu sounds mouthwatering!
