Don't much care for Hulk. In fact, don't much care for any of these characters and I'm still trying to wrap my head around how they got to be involved in one of the biggest movies of the year.

Having said that, Thor was a surprisingly good movie with a story and everything! Wow. And Joss Whedon is what JJ Abrams wishes he were in his heart of hearts, so I'm absolutely sure this movie is going to rock.

Swinging back again though, I am pretty sick of the constant news about it. Seriously. It's like an interview or a tidbit or something comes out every day .... for the past few months! - and it's been doing my nut in. You can complain all you want about the lack of publicity for Dredd, but I swear, if it were like this for Dredd, I'd be tearing my hair out just the same. I'm not even a spoiler nazi, I do enjoy the odd tidbit, but christ on a crutch, y'all!

I've got the nagging feeling that this isn't going to do as well as they're expecting - I just don't know if it's going to be too much of a mash-up of characters for a mass audience compared to just Iron Man, Thor, etc. and also bearing in mind we've had 2 recent Iron Man films, Hulk Re-booted etc.

I'm just a bit sick of Marvel.

My expectations are that TDKR and Prometheus are going to be the winners this summer.

Me too but I'm well sick of TDK as well, if ever there was a overbearing nerd-fever-worship, it's for Nolan, unfortunately. I think Avengers will do big business and the fact it's being released well in advance of all the others may bring in a huge family friendly audience worldwide. Spider-Man will be the interesting one to watch as to whether Sony can play the same trick twice.

I can understand that, I was fairly ambivalent about Begins, really liked TDK but though Inception got a bit dull at the Goldeneye level.

For me it might just be a general boredom of superheroes, and in particular that trailers have the same cookie cutter look - the Transformers/Battleship/Avengers style of trailer has become the new gravelly voiced 'In a world' guy...

I take your point about it being more family-friendly and getting in there first, but at the moment I'm not particularly arsed about seeing any of the summer blockbusters apart from Prometheus.

Yeah I don't like how he spends so much screentime with scenes that showcase his weaknesses as a director. He needs a good 2nd unit action director to pull it off.

If the script is good for Prometheus, it stands a chance of being really good otherwise it'll just be the next vol. in Ridley's stereoscopic image collection.

The Marvel films are never particularly great but they're usually entertaining broad-appeal blockbusters so I'm looking forward to this. Whedon's a smart writer/director (his fans aren't his fault ). I do have a sneaking suspicion Avengers will get sidetracked by having to set up the next batch of single-person films, in much the same way Captain America, Thor etc. were weakened by being forced into setting up Avengers. And then Cap 2, Iron Man 2 etc. will be busy setting up Avengers 2. Tantric movie-making.

I get the logic of what he's trying to do with them but it doesn't work and he should stop. And his third acts do seem to have problems a lot of the time. Still, even his faults as a director are interesting faults for the most part. I think he's a progressive filmmaker and it's great that he's in such a strong position to make these kind of mad big idea films with huge budgets.

It's not particularly the logic of Nolan's scenes that's the problem, it's the geography as in what's going on and where things are in relation to each other on-screen. Now I know there's a time to create confusion or a philosophy of spatial/temporal chaos in films/scenes -Paul Greengrass- but that doesn't seem to really be Nolan's bag. He shoots a lot of coverage so he'll be covered in the edit which is a real sign of not knowing what should be shot in the first place. He alsoneeds a editor/producer who'll tell him what's not working, cases in point: the flabby TDK with it's repetitious moral dilemmas and superfluous character arcs. It seems the exec. producers at Warners think Nolan's such a genius he's never wrong.

There's a great new hardback Avengers collection out, with 'the heroic age' stories inside by bendis, jrjr, etc. The cover features the movie logo, a painting of the movie characters- including pretty good likenesses of chris hemsworth and the bloke who plays hawkeye... All very exciting, except in teeny tiny letters at the bottom of the front cover it says, 'this is a tie-in with marvel's avengers movie'. And indeed not, cos when you turn over you see it features the 'new' avengers- the thing, wolverine and spidey. Heh.

And roger- i know YOU think it's funny to post very long, inane, lyrics on any thread you think is worthless- but to those of us who access the mobile web, it is fucking annoying as it takes an age to scroll through it. Please fucking stop.
