You started it!

I'm really looking forward to this film. Every time I see a trailer I regress to the 12 year old me who would have absolutely exploded in excitement at the thought of this film - I guess it may not live up to the hype but at the moment I'm just enjoying it and I think it's a real achievement that they actually got this project to work.

For anyone who wants to read some classic Avengers at a reasonable price they've just released this Jim Shooter pocket book collection - bargain!

Youre absolutely right- sorry Roger, my apologies. But the sentiment still stands!

Avengers will do well, I'm not even the least bit doubtful about that. It seems to have quite a mass appeal, cutting through all ages and genders and circles. And just cuz I'm sick of the hype doesn't mean I won't be there watching. And that 'we will avenge it' from Tony Stark gave me shivers.

I saw Inception months after release, somehow managed to avoid knowing much about it, and came away happily stunned. Good movie. Came away with a new appreciation for Tom Hardy and absolutely loved Gordon-Levitt and that 'gravity' scene was wonderful.

I mean, I'm not at all involved in film-making so totally clueless as to the technical aspects, but as a layman film lover, it was great entertainment.

Avengers will be huge, . . . achieving what John Carter set out to do . . .make  £££$$$$$ and unfortunately didn't.

PreacherCain

John Carter wasn't as huge a disaster as some thought it was going to be, making 75% of its takings on the international market. Still, a flop in the US is generally considered a flop no matter what.

The Avengers will do huge business. It's already selling out in advance!

I'm looking forward to The Avengers almost as much as I am Dredd. It's the film we all wished for as kids when we'd talk about how ace it would be if there were films about all the best Marvel superheroes and then they all teamed up and fought together in a big mash up film.

I'm going to be grinning like a loon all the way through it.

Quote from: JOE SOAP on 06 April, 2012, 06:10:07 PMIt's not particularly the logic of Nolan's scenes that's the problem, it's the geography as in what's going on and where things are in relation to each other on-screen.

It wasn't until six years after Batman Begins came out that I understood what was going on in that ninja trial scene, when I read a fanboy review of the film on the internet and they spelled it out beat by beat and then declared it "awesome."

Good as Edgar Wright (Director of Spaced, Hot Fuzz, Shaun Of The Dead) tweet this today;
'The Avengers' is a big tub of popcorn heaven. A huge grin on my face throughout and much applause from the crowd too. Well done Mr. Whedon.

The villains confirmed-
[spoiler]Joss Whedon - "The alien race are the Chitauri -- or a version of them -- because they are not one of the key races and they don't have a storied history. That wasn't the point. I know this debate will go on long after I'm dead. I would say it was the Kree-Skrull race."[spoiler]

They say you need to spend money to make money, well I've never made any money so by that logic I've never spent any.

There's only 2 film's on my must see list this and Dredd
loveforstitch - Does he fall in love? I like a little romance in all my movies.

Rekaert - Yes, he demonstrates it with bullets, punches and sentencing.

He's Mega City 1's own Don Juan.

It's a flop despite what it's earned globally because of how expensive it was to make.

Up till now it's so far made $264,001,011 worldwide, 50% of that will be taken by the theatres so that leaves roughly $130-150 million going back to Disney - it cost $350 million to make and market. JC needed to pull back around $600-700 million to break-even and even then it would still be considered a flop cos of how expensive it was. Disney were hoping for Avatar style numbers of over a billion.

PreacherCain

Don't they make a ton of money off pre-sales and media tie-ins and all that jazz? And doesn't the budget have to cover all the previous failed attempts over the last two decades too?

Not arguing that it didn't do badly but taking in total worldwide sales and eventual money from other sources, I'm not sure if it's turned out to be as big a flop as many made it out be.
