Batman's Superior Cousin

Since the Bristol Comic Con starts in a weeks time, I'd thought I bring this up:

Will someone please grab a few issues of #0 of the Strip Magazine from said event for various users including myself & I'll discuss with whoever does with my address over accquiring an issue.

As this is the most exciting thing to happen in British comics in years, I'd love to get my hands on a copy!
An old-school, no-bullshit, boys-own action/adventure comic reminiscent of the 2000ads and Eagles and Warlords and Battles and other glorious black-and-white comics that were so, so cool in the 70's and 80's - Buy the hardback Christmas Annual!

I think those of us wanting a copy (me included) will outnumber those able to get hold of extras.

One of thoise things sadly; don't go, probably don't get.  And someone that does go will put it straight on e-bay.

OK, I think it's probably best to manage some expectations here...

First, I think it bears repeating that: Strip is aimed at 8-10 year olds. This is not to say that it talks down to its target audience, but it is not aimed at middle-aged comic fans.

Second, #0 will not contain much in the way of actual, err, strip. I've seen a rough and it's essentially a rundown of the upcoming series, with a teaser/synopsis and some sample art. You'll get a good idea of what's going to be in the comic proper -- and that should be enough to get some of you quite enthused -- but what you won't get are any complete strips.

Thought it was probably a good idea to make that clear ahead of time.

Jim,

Can you confirm that this cover...

...is just a quick rough and that it will be redesigned prior to launch?

As far as I know, that's pretty much what #0 going to look like.

I say again: 8-10 year olds. Simple and eye-catching is the order of the day. The above is a touch busy for my tastes, but it does the job. Would I do it differently? Probably. Have I ever edited or launched a comic? No. Will the actual comic look different? I don't know, but I have no particular reason to think so...

Fair enough, but surely the masthead should say "Strip" rather than "Strip Magazine"...?

Jim, that it's aimed at 8-10 year olds is excellent. And guarantees me buying three copies of the early issues- after that, it depends if mine like it.

The only slight concern i have is that the title 'strip' has conotations other than comics (though i like the equal billing given to the 'magazine' part, which goes some way to assuage that), and that non-licensed comics in this country are so few and far between that i fear this may end up tucked away on the shelves next to sfx, 2000AD and guitarist, or worse up there with clint and bizarre- rather than next to ben 10 and the beano.

Best of luck with this though, i'm very much looking forward to it.

Yeah its also worth noting (though whether this is the place to do it is open to debate, been meaning to do it for a while now) when you do a Google search for Strip Magazine your top link is all about those other conotations. Now I'll not profess to know the minds of an 8-10 year old (its been such a long time) but that I think would be a big distraction to its target audience (or not I can't remember whether girls where still entirely yuck at that age?)

I'm aware that a Google search turns up magazines about the other kind of Strip, and I know John is, too. I suspect a more robust web-presence for the comic may change that -- I know that I now appear on the first page of a Google search on my name where I used to be about ten pages down the listings before I started my blog.

The nitty-gritty of this is, TBH, somewhat above my pay grade, however!

Surely that's why it's called "Strip" in the first place ie. to be slightly provocative and dangerous?
