Oh Blimey Ridley Scott is a busy fellow!

After the embarrassment of Old Man Indy, I'm not sure I really want to see Old Man Deckard.

I quite liked Old Man Indy! It was probably the worst of the franchise (dare I say... to date?!) but still remains entertaining.

QuoteAnd I can't really see that there's anything to add to the original. At one time I'd be pretty excited by news like that, but the success rate of these things (re-boots, sequels, prequels) is generally very low.

Can't argue with that point much. However, there are a few exceptions to the rule: Battlestar Galactica's remake/ reboot actually ended up (in my opinion) a hell of a lot better than the 70s show. Plus, and still within cyberpunk, we have the latest Tron movie which seemed to go down very well.

I guess I'm just excited because I genuinely love Bladerunner. It's one of my fav flicks of all time and probably the only film I watch at least once every year.

Plus, my agent's shopping a cyberpunk manuscript for me ;)

Not sure the FX in most of Blade Runner -the film's main attraction and the reason for it's longevity- can be bettered, made busier more likely, but there can certainly be a better screenplay with better pacing if the right scribes get to work on it.

Agreed. Like 2001, the SFX are perfect, despite their age.  There's just nowhere to go.

Me three on this one.

Any of you guys ever watch the 'making of' doc? All that smoke was to hide the budget constraints, apparently. Yet it works perfectly in setting the mood for the city. Pretty much defined the Tech Noir sub-genre, in my view.

For me it's really Doug Trumbull & crew's show. The multiple separation layers of rain/smoke/lighting/models shot Vistavision are unparallelled. There's only one dodgy model shot that looks a bit, well, modelly.

That Rutger Hauer speech from the end of Blade Runner is so frequently quoted and referenced it has lost all of it's impact and is now just irritating. It's like the sci-fi version of Anthony Hopkin's now-tedious 'Chianti and fava beans' shtick from Silence of the Lambs.

I'm with the Blade Runner = interminably boring/Ridley Scott = massively overrated filmmaker school of thought, so couldn't really give one either way but I do think that artists should never go back to revisit past glories - it surely can only end in disappointment.

Same goes for the Alien 'prequel'. I'd be astonished if that turns out to be any good.

Well, since the last even semi-decent film Ridley Scott made was, er, Alien, the answer's probably not.

Bladerunner has always bored the tits off me, so i say remake, reboot, prequelise, sequelise, do a tv show, a cartoon or a stage musical if you want. As long as you get a better actor than Harrison Plank. Perhaps John Barrowman?

And a reality TV show to fill the remaining cast  ;)

I think I'd probably watch that.

So the Scott is working on both a Tie in to Alien and a sequel to Blade runner.
Guess we wont be seeing another series of the good wife for some time yet (I love that show, but I love Alien and Blade runner more).

Batman's Superior Cousin

Sir Ridley Scott is working on a sequal to Blade Runner while hh.s younger brother Tony is working on a prequal to the Alien franchise.
