Are there any fans here of Mike Mignola's Hellboy? It hasn't been all that long since I got into them, but I've grown to be quite fond of them.

Evil Pants

Yep. Been a huge fan since almost the very beginning. And of BPRD, and pretty much all of the side projects...

Dark Jimbo

By crikey yes - BPRD is the only ongoing US comic whose characters I find myself as equally attached to as those from Tharg's stable. Absolutely superb series. Hellboy is likewise brilliant, though in my opinion suffers in comparison to its spin-off title. There are only so many times you can read about the big guy punching a mythological menace of the week to death or denying his fate before you begin to feel you're reading the same stories over and over again. Happily, I think Mignola realised this too in 2011 - lovely to see a US creator who isn't afraid to keep things fresh and ever-changing.

The other spin-off titles I've not warmed to as much - the Lobster Jonhson solo was really dissapointing and cursed with horrible art, Witchfinder was enjoyable enough but ultimately forgettable, likewise the Abe Sapien stuff - but BPRD keeps me commited.

I haven't read all that much Hellboy stuff apart from the earlier stories, which were decent if slight. I'd like to read some of the longer ongoing stories and see how they fare.

I thoroughly enjoyed most of the BPRD stuff I've read though. (Again, not a whole lot.) Of the two I think I preferred BPRD, but then again, I probably haven't read enough of each to judge properly.

Keef Monkey

Oh yes! Only got into it after enjoying the movie, and have been buying the odd book here and there when I've got the spare cash. Last one I picked up was Book 5, so I'm guessing I've got a ton to catch up on. The artwork just drips atmosphere, love it.

I do enjoy BPRD and Hellboy, but I must admit I am really missing Captain Daimio from the regular BPRD line-up - I thought he really added something vital to the cast and the character dynamics, and without him, it's not quite the same (though I was very happy to see his fairly recent resurfacing.) Still, Kraus is a lot of fun, particular his feud with Panya.

as my avatars may show i may be :D

never got into bprd as much but  thats mainly due to the art of guy davis that never grabbed me .

it was actually the forbidden planet catalogue you used to get that had mezcos figures for the first  film that peaked my interest i looked into it and found it was actually a cool comic as well!!! and it kind of snowballed...also wishing del toro and perlman would actally get together and admit they both want to do the third film....

Oh yes, I likes Hellboy as well as BPRD, and I'm also enjoying Mignola's Baltimore stories too.
Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side.

Yeah, love hellboy as much for mike mignola's art as the character. And the DarkHorse library editions are awesome. Reading volume 4 right now.

I got into Hellboy a year or so ago and I'm loving it (I often think it wouldn't be out of place in prog!), I've just read book 5, I'd love to give BPRD a go but I can't seem to find the 1st TPB anywhere!.

I recently got the first one on Ebay and I believe Amazon have it. I'm up to book 7 of Hellboy now and intend to collect the BPRD trades too.

I've seen the Baltimore comic, but I'm unsure. Is it set in the same universe as Hellboy and BPRD?

No, but don't let that stop you. It's perhaps a little less over the top than some of the Hellbooy/BPRD stuff, but the tone is fairly similar. Second mini series just finished up, and both are well worth your time. Also a must-own: The Amazing Screw On Head.
