My copy of DROKK arrived at the weekend and I've been listening to it constantly all week. It's fantastic. As others have said, it's evocative of many classic film soundtracks such as The Terminator, Blade Runner and the soundtracks of John Carpenter.

I would have been enjoying this even without the Dredd connection because I love electronic ambient music and this is a stark, beautiful example.

I hope that the music that's been chosen for the new film sticks to a similar vibe as it's a perfect fit.

Highly recommended.

Yep, I'm really enjoying it too. Funnily enough I actually suggested in the Dredd OST thread that something instrumentally along the lines of Portishead's 'We Carry On' would make for a cool soundtrack to the new film - and that almost came to be - many tracks on DROKK have a very similar sound - especially 'Scope the Block' - one of my favourites off the album.

Every time I listen to the first few bars of 'Lawmaster/Pursuit' I can see the opening scene of the film in my mind's eye - slow fade-in of Cursed Earth desert, panning across to reveal the shimmering lights of Mega-city on the horizon as an introductory crawl appears on the screen in glorious 1980s retro-futuristic Terminator-like font...

According to that quote Joe Soap posted, the official ost will be quite similar - lots of synths, very dark etc.

There's going to be a performance of extracts from the album at Orbital Comics on 16th May

woohoo - I'm in London that day by coincidence, so I'll pop along for that

Loving Drokk! It's a fantastic listen and understanding that it started out as a score for the new movie lends it even more resonance.

As already mentioned there's a definite Carpenter vibe-some of it could of been lifted from the Assault On Precinct 13 score and there's a few nods to Brad Fiedel's Terminator stuff.

Great stuff!

Can't agree enough about the quality of DROKK. Those reference points are fair enough- and I enjoy the interplay between a prowling electronic bass line and a whip-like syndrum as much as the next man- but there's even more going on than an analogue synth and betamax video nostalgia fest.

Inhale reminds me of The Dust Brothers' disorientating score for Fight Club, and combines the hypnotic, narcotic rhythm of the best Stoner Rock and Dub with the aural soundscapes of The Orb or Eno. When the psilocybin hits the fan, the dominant riff staggers into the worst trip this side of White Rabbit ... then gets up and carries right on as before. I would have loved to see Urban ripped off his tits
on Slo-Mo
, trying to Carry on Judging, with this in the background.

Even the titles are a class apart; Clone Gunman and Puerto Luminae demonstrate that Barrow's fan credentials are of the highest order, and if no-one takes Miami Lawgiver as the starting point for a Dredd story they must be spoiled for ideas.

Highly Recommended.

Inhale's singular Garage-Rock riff is the one that sounds a little ill-fitting and the tacked-on, uninspired noise-scape don't do much for these bleeding ears, probably the weakest track.

Wasn't that keen on first listen, even as a Carpenter fan, just a bit too stripped down for my tastes - but the album's growing on me.

Don't like Inhale much either...
