Looks great. We really are spoiled for blockbusters/genre films this year aren't we?

Chronicle, Gravity, Spider-man, Dark Knight Rises, Dredd, The Avengers, The Hobbit, Prometheus, World War Z, John Carter...

Good job there's a brand spanking new independent cinema a 5 minute walk from my new flat!

I'm really not a massive fan of most Superhero movies, I think comics do these types of story so much better,  but this does look pretty cool. With Dark Knight there could be two this year I actually go to see which is the most I've bothered with since the early days and the excitement that brought.

Hmmm... the chap playing Peter doesn't seem to strike the right note for me and I can't say the visuals are grabbing me. But on the plus side, the casual way in which Spidey dodges gunfire is appealing, and at least he's indulging in a spot of wise-cracking - it always bothered me that the Tobey Maguire Spidey was so lacking in humour when in costume.

That Looks A-MAZ-ING!!! Nice fresh take on the whole franchise. Has this trailer just appeared recently? it seems to have gone under the radar with all the Avengers and Dredd stuff appearing.

Not convinced by the Lizard. I usually love the character but I've always seen him portrated as evil when in Lizard form but a genuinely nice bloke when he's Kurt Connors.
The sinister, threatening scientist thing doesn't seem right to me.

Anyway, I hope it does well just so we can get a sequel with Mysterio - you could go crazy with the special effects and imagination with that character.

Yeah, the lizard and mysterio are my favourite spidey villains, closely followed by kraven and the shocker. So hopefully that's spidey 5, 6 and 7 sorted. Though i expect another franchise-killing team-up between electro and mysterio is on the cards for the next one. And yes, connors should be the tortured nice human who unleashes the evil reptile. It's kind of the point. Mind you, the 'point' seems to have sailed straight past the makers of this new one, what with peter's parents being involved.

Brief excitement based on a semi-good trailer cruelly crushed by the revealing of what The Lizard looks like:

Not exactly close to the comic, but the various angles I've seen look okay to me (and I'm a big fan of the Lizard).  Also, I suspect this is only one stage in Doc Connor's transformation, I'd be more worried about later more extreme ones.

I'm not so sure about that- the toys suggest otherwise! And I really hope he gets the bike!

He grows a lab-coat and purple cacks.

I haven't read a whole lot of Spider-man, but according to some of the posters on that site, the look of lizard is actually quite close to the original design; the longer snouted version appearing relatively recently.

The longer snouted version IS the version I'm more used to though. I was a bit disappointed when I got a glimpse of this version on the trailer, but looking at that mask, I think it works pretty well. The wider mouth makes it work somehow.

At least some of those toys look pretty cool!
