Glasgow Comic Con - 2012

Firstly im a crap fan cos of the following reasons A) i like to get pished B) I really hate queueing makes me claustrophobic C) I hate carrying shit so left all my comics at the event so cant put up the signed stuffs the now and D) Im really fucking lazy at 'being a fan'. Like im as close as I can get to stalking Frank quitely aka Vinnie and this entails attending around 60% of his public events that are close to my house and not bothering him more than a smile and a nod in every day life LOL shittest fangirl ever. I would also like to add that Colin Macneil sadly had to cancel at the last minute and I hope he is well.

Saturday...
Morning - So wandered in with a hangover very very early around 10ish to see vincent 'Frank Quitely' , James 'Ganjaman/Big Jim' Stewart, Dave 'Xander' Alexander,? I got vinnie to sign my We3 and electric soup but big john fucked up the photo op. whats the point if you cannae make the person out lol he made us ghosts and my camera has no flash and the venue had no strong lights WTFAIL



The talk with Jim Starlin, Mike Ploog and Rufus Dayglo was good but Mike Convoy wasnt a great host because the audience werent mic'd and he wasn't re-reading the questions. It meant for every Q&A after the talks we all had to try and guess what everyone was talking about. This added a fun pub quiz aspect but we could probably live without it next year. Also he didnt stand up during the Q&As so if you were sitting out his line of sight you didnt get to ask a question.

Most of the day...

sat rolling chatting to Xander for a while who drew me a lovely mac bams sketch and gave me a free comic - such a doll! This is cos last year he was really grumpy and hungover first thing in the morning and refused to sign a cover for me cos it was another artists work (even though he was in it) so wind him up about that all the time - was bammin him up goin ooh look vinnie signed your cover LOL. Xander is a brill.

Massive *hugs* to stref' ♥ He gave me an artists proof copy of graphic novel 'X' which I have a credit in and some original art from it which is awesome. He also gave me a full page OA from his book 'raising Amy' and sketched me Captain Hook as a werewolf in 5 mins which i will post later as it was great. He is fastest artist I have ever seen! He also did Peter Pan as a vampire for my mum which she was lovin on the sunday.



hangin wi big jim, jim starlin and all the other durty durty smokers was super cool too - good chats in the smokin bit. Also met Satanist/mark which was super cool but wish Id found you later to go to the pub as you woulda loved it!!

End of saturday
I missed Alan Grants signing cos it was the same time as Grant Morrison's talk and Morrison is my fave writer ever so sorry grant i lurve ye but had to miss ye. I got to chat to him a wee bit when he was standing with us but he was with his wee nephew so I didnae wanna bother him for sigs or anything when he was showing him about.

Grant morrison and Frank Quitelys talk was really good as Grant is always super chatty and has a lot of projects and good rapour with Vinnie. I totally cheated and sat right down the front so I wouldn't need to queue for grants signing after. Grants a very funny guy and sang us a couple songs from Seaguy and did a wee jig LOL he was definitely pished on very good form. I got my prog 419 and We3 hardback signed which was super cool toothfangirl.



Vinnie walked down the queue signing his morrison stuff since about 80% people had all star superman and the other 20% had something else of his. He shook me in a huggy way and said 'get out my way you, I've already signed for you' lol but he was only kidding and gave hugs and another photo yasss vinnies still my fave ♥ hugs off vinnie is always a highlight. Aside from being scotlands greatest artist he is super gorgeous and even better is soooo nice and sooo funny and such a chilled out stoner. Ive had a crush on him since I was a wee lassie and he was just a local cult hero so strange hes now a superstar!



Saturday night...
Me and Dave Braysher (the lazy one of BHP) went to meet john mcshane for a pint after and he was with John Wagner lol seriously is there anyone mcshane isn't pals with?! I'm a 2000ad fan as yah know but was always feart tae meet Wagner away from signings case he was really mean or something and it ruined my love for his work - ah if only the art always met the artist - but what a exceptionally nice man in personal life John Wagner is!!!!! Got in a long convo about solo variations by jazz musicians performing covers of the same songs... LOL! And I promise he started it!! Anyone who knows me well will know that's exactly the sort of convo that most people *groan* and move away from me in the pub for starting haha ♥ john is a proper top bloke! He said he'd post me some cool tunes so much kudos cos music is my numero uno and anyone who sends me cds of rare tracks is auto amazing in my books.



After food we headed up to the SCIBAs at citizen m. I was possibly too wrecked to be there. Apologies for getting big john farman one of the organisers too stoned wrecked immediately before he had to present the awards LOL. He read out the wrong name and then hit the giggles - funniest ever so sorry Gordy that was my fault!! Very glad Xander won the lifetime award and a shout out to james devlin for picking up 2 awards for his work on SOTD. Gordy won Best Comic CONGRATZ and sold out his comics WOW so mega go team tooth board there. It was cool hangin out with Gordy as hes a really sound guy.

Jim Starlin and sonny were great too and was talking lots with them all day as they are smokers. Jims comments about Charles Rennie Mackintosh aka scotlands greatest designer being a latent homosexual with penises everywhere still slays me LOL its so true! after that, everytime someone was giving a talk i couldnt help but look at teh huge cocks above their heads. Sonny is a remarkable woman and was telling us how she fled south africa due to political problems. They were such a lovely american couple on holiday but most people were too intimidated to talk and they were left sitting alone. so one of the organisers asked us to go sit with them as they were invited guests. Lol im not even a big fan or anything! always welcome back - such funny and interesting people.



After we went to the catty but Mcshane got in an argument with the manager about the volume of the music so we got thrown out and went to stereo for a strange electro hip hop gig. I got to talk to rufus for a while in stereo which was cool. Dredd punk = auto win in my books since I'm a big punk and AD fan nevermind all his great professional work and the fact that he's an actual wee doll - such a sweet guy ♥ is one of his other tattoos Flesh cos it looked like it but I forgot to ask if it was Old One Eye ♥ lurve Old One Eye! But lols gregg asking him to let him photograph his naked body LOL poor rufus looked terrified.



Sunday...
Hangover sunday lol. Missed the quiz and rufus in the morn but wandered in with a bacon sandwhich half way through wagners talk which was good.



Started drinking again lol and my mum came through to glasgow for it which was good so big thanks to fat boy dale jackson for the free ticket as she really enjoyed herself. I arsed about talking to people. Got a couple cute sketches off jason mathis in School of the damned 2+3 which was cool. Got even more wrecked. Talked infinite amounts of shite to all the super lovely fans and pros. Watched jon haward and rufus dayglo drawing stuffs ♥ always amazing to see live art. Hung about with awesome dave. Made it to wagners signing. Saw half of starlins talk. And urm yeah sunday was very chilled during the day and a lot of fun ♥



Sunday night...
Oh man that shit kicked off! Dinner at Slouch and then sat outside in the beer garden for smoking and drinking. This quickly turned into a party as everyone was on such a high from a fantastic weekend. I'd name everyone who was there but we'd be here all day so ill just say madness and antics from all the amazing glasvegas squad ♥ ♥ ♥







Dropped by hope street studios for a drink after but I was really wrecked lol.

Mega mega weekend ♥ huge thanks to the organisers, guests and volunteers who ran about like crazy to make it such an epic time x x x

I had a f***ing amazing time at the Con. The highlight was of course No More Heroes winning the Best Comic award at the SICBAs - a very welcome shocker of a moment. Some bugger filmed my acceptance speech where I mainly tried not to swear and I'm sure it'll end up online at some point. I sold a shit load of copies of NMH and #1 is now a complete sell out, but - shameless plug ahoy! - the also limited AND cheaper double issue of 1 and 2 is still available. 



Another highlight was interviewing the legend himself and idol since childhood John Wagner. An incredibly nice guy, he talked about the Dredd film, the progress on the Buttonman film and quite a bit on Day of Chaos and how it came about. The whole thing was filmed and as soon as its uploaded I'll post a link.

I interviewed Jim Starlin too. He was also a great guy and talked for ages on seeing his creations on the big screen, how the industry has changed over the years, the highlights of his career etc.

Other little highlights include getting my photos taken with the incredible Predator, Alien and marines cosplayers, getting comics thrown at me for starting a "ROBOTS! ROBOTS!" chant in the small press room, getting a Thanos sketch from Starlin, chatting to lots of creators and picking up their comics, getting lots of free drinks at the SICBAs, chatting to so many cool people (especially you, Judo ) and rounding off the weekend by witnessing a transvestite having his face mushed into the naked arse of a guy dressed as a bear at the ICW show in the Garage. That'll haunt my dreams for a long time.
