British comedian turned Hollywood star, Simon Pegg, has wished the legendary British comic book 2000 AD a happy 35th birthday in a special video message.

The star of Star Trek, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Paul sent the video from the set of the latest Star Trek film currently being produced in the US.

And in a massive treat for fans, who are eagerly awaiting the new Dredd film, due for release in September, Pegg enlisted the services of his co-star, Karl Urban, who will play the Lawman of the Future in the DNA/Lionsgate movie. Urban gives just a taste of what cinema-goers can look forward in the gritty reboot of the Dredd franchise, which has been written by Alex Garland.

A big fan of 2000 AD, Pegg made numerous references to the Galaxy's Greatest Comic throughout his breakout TV comedy series Spaced, and has been a very vocal proponent of the Galaxy's Greatest Comic.

"What a fantastic birthday treat," said 2000 AD editor Matt Smith. "Simon's been a fan of 2000 AD since he was a kid and it's great to see him still spreading the word of Thrill-power. It's also brilliant to see for the first time Karl Urban put on the voice - and the chin - of Dredd! Thanks to Simon for the wonderful birthday wishes!"

That's cooler than cool, that is: Alpha and Dredd - together on screen at last!

"Who the hell's gonna mess with them?"

Well that could really be Star Trek stars, plural. Nice one. :D

If that is at the filming of the sequel see if he can bag Sherlock for a word ;)
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Brilliant, what a treat, and how great was Urban's Dredd!

Quite disappointed to see that the set for the Enterprise engineering section hasn't been updated for the sequel...

Bloody sweet. I've gone from thinking Pegg's a dick to thinking Pegg is not a dick. I think that perhaps he's not a dick. Need readjustment time.
