Original Total Recall on ITV2 now.

The Enigmatic Dr X

"Harry from vork is trying to keel me!"
Lock up your spoons!

THAT how you do bullet holes in the bodies! As now it all CGI :-(

Poor backpack man in the Escalator...

Professor Bear

Verhoeven was notorious for using gallons of fake blood for gunshot impacts - mainly because so much of it turns into a red mist when splattering out of people on the set that it doesn't show up very well on camera, so he just kept making his FX team use more and more for the splats.  If you look at the corpses in his films shortly after they've been shot, there's probably more blood around them than could fit in a human body.

Bwwwrrrn.  Eh, me heart's not in it...

File this one under "What the fuck is the point?"

Oh, right. To have Matrix fight scenes with Stormtroopers.

The sad thing is, is that this will make tons more money than Dredd.

Ya think? not see Dredd 10 secs teaser yet?

Dredd will probably be the better film, but it can't compete with the big hitters.

They'll spend more advertising Total Recall than the entire budget of Dredd combined.

Dredd could end up making more profit, of course...

Also Dredd is R in the US and this remake is PG, so half the audience have easier access.
Personally think this looks alright but it's in my basket for why remake as well, naught wrong with the original i watched it just the other day.

Some funny similarities with Dredd here, especially on youtube:

"It's a rubbish remake of the 90s one" - People with no idea of the origins of the story
"No Arnie, no deal" - 90s muscle-man fanboys

NEGOTIATION'S OVER!

Saw the trailer in the cinema yesterday. Seeing it on youtube it was "Yeah, looks cool enough" on the big screen though it looked REALLY good. Loved how the city etc looked, and gotta admit to being a bit of a Colin Farrell fan which reminds me... need to buy Fright Night.

Not seen the 3boob trailer. Think I'll hold off watching any more as I'm pretty sure I'll be going to the flicks for this one

That would be a valid comment, if not for the fact that Total Recall 2012 explicitly references and echoes the 1990 film*. By trying to have their cake and eat it - claiming that they are re-adapting the original story while trading off the visual cues of the Arnie version - they leave themselves completely open to this entirely valid criticism.

By contrast, DREDD seems to be doing everything in its power to distance itself from the 1995 Stallone version - and that's why people get bent out of shape about it.

As for me, the appeal of Total Recall was always about the demented, garish excess and schlocky Rob Botin practical effects. Take all that stuff away, I'm not really interested. If there were a proper filmmaker involved then I might be interested in seeing a more cerebral take on the material - but with Len Wiseman at the helm I couldn't care less about seeing a watered down 12A rehash, with nothing to add but slow motion fight scenes and excessive cgi. I've ordered the 1990 version on Blu Ray and will watch that instead.

Lots of differences too: Total Recall was ace and made lots of money. Judge Dredd was shit and didn't.
