Molch-r: does that mean then, that THEORETICALLY someone like marvel could do a deal with lionsgate and we could see yet more new dredd comics available?

No.
Ah man, I was hoping for a IDW Dredd, a Marvel/Lionsgate Movie Dredd and, maybe a DC Comics Stallone Movie Dredd - and, maybe, just maybe... some sort of Bluewater saucy Judge Anderson special.

bah!

So with the Dredd IDW and at least the Zaucher of Zilk strip then I'm guessing there will be a whole range of 2000 AD strips released by IDW?

I don't think those pictures are that bad. The last one takes a few too many liberties with the uniform and therefore sets off my warning alarm bells, but the first two are pretty good.

I'll be getting the first few issues of whatever 2000 AD stuff IDW are releasing before making up my mind whether to continue with it.

Agreed.
Don't see the pronlem myself. I mean, when Cliff Robinson goes to town and adds all kinds of bells and whistles to the uniform, everyone laps it up!
And there are plently of artists who ARE NOT AMERICAN who have drawn Dredd strips that are less than thrill powered. Same goes for scripts too. I don't think the country the writer os born in will have much of an affect on scripts being good, or for that matter, cannon.
Remember - no matter how loud we shout here, we do not get to decide which strips are cannon and whcih are not.

And What the hell is this?

These images look to be done by people way too familiar with the '95  version with no knowledge of Bolland and McMahon's work. I hope this Judge Dredd meets the Jetsons look does not find its way inside the the covers. Its great that they're making an effort to translate Dredd for the US, but so far  I'm unconvinced. Judge Dredd is not some throw away luncheon meat product to be flippantly thrown out into the American market grinder.

Hope I'm wrong though.

Ideally wouldn't it be better to actually get these artists familiarized with a few early case files before they start drawing MC-1. I have to agree with CYCLOPZ this art is poorly conceived with throwaway 1970s visions of the future.

The Adventurer

That might be the worst Jim Starlin piece of professional artwork ever. There is so much wrong with that right arm it isn't funny. Which sucks, because the background cityscape looks great.

Starlin's used Year One Ezquerra as his paradigm, rather than the iconic McMahon design or its modern variants. It'd be interesting to know whether that was just the artist's personal preference, or indicative of IDW's decision to set the stories in the pre-2099 era.

I read that as Stalin used Year One Ezquerra as his paradigm.
