Back when Buttonman was documenting his IMDB quest, I was inspired to get a couple of colleagues into a mildly competitive attitude to the top 250. Looking back at the quality spreadsheet I created at the time, I see that I've seen 162/250 and 81/100 as they were at the time. Of this new top 100 list, I'm down for 79. Confusingly, Up is the only one of the ten or so new entries which I haven't seen. There appears to be a lot of movement in the 75-150 range.

The amount of Hitchcock counts against me.

Of my 'to do' list most are in the last couple of years - things find their natural place over time and I doubt 'Shutter Island' will be there next week (not that I've seen it). It is quite elitist with a lot of films there, it would seem, so that the voters look intellectual - tell me 'Wild Strawberries' is a better film than 'Rushmore'.
I would've thought Wild Strawberries was more worthy solely for starting with a W? Sadly, I haven't seen either but I'll happily tell you that Andrei Rublev (squeezing in at last place) is a better film than at least 242 of the other entries. Although I thought The Shawshank Redemption was a bit pish and certainly not anywhere near one of top 250 films I've ever seen.

Up is definitely worth seeing. It's great.

Me too.

I've seen a grand total 26 on that list (which is funny as I've got hundreds of DVD's and Blues), guess i must just like too much shit and must be the reason modern cinema sucks!

41/100
More than I expected.
If films like The Sting and Some Like It Hot wern't there then it would be less.

Aaronovsky licenced Perfect Blue so he could recreate scenes from it, not because he plans to remake it or give it a higher-profile re-release in the west.  Maybe not entirely kisher on some artsy-fartsy creative level, but perfectly legal and gives something back to the creators of Perfect Blue, so I imagine they're happy enough.

Only 42 from the list, and I'm surprised that Star Trek is on there - a very entertaining film, certainly, but top 100 material?
I did better on the IMDB Bottom 100, mind, with a healthy 68, though fair cop I had my on mini-quest to watch every film on that list before I realised I couldn't keep up with it - DNAlien and Alien Versus Hunter don't even chart any more!  Some of the films on the list were actually entertaining, too, like Battlefield Earth, Godzilla Vs the Smog Monster, American Ninja 5 and Cool As Ice - "so bad they're entertaining" still counts!

Judo

bottom 100 does sound like a challenge... Though I think imdb poorly pick upon horror and scifi in their rankings x
Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.

Spaceghost

The magic number - 69.

I agree that some of those on the list don't rank in my top films list.

And Shawshank Redemption is awful, maudlin crap.

Bat King

A very poor 56 seen... Though I didn't count any maybes...

I'd imagine it's more to do with the mentality of genre fans. You don't get anybody telling you how much they love to sit down with a bad rom-com or watch badly acted, badly written indie relationship dramas with shit effects. Yet there are plenty people on here - myself included - who will happily watch the ropiest of horror/kung fu/sci-fi pish and maybe even get something out of it.

They're also the sort of geeks who then go and rate things on IMDB.

No, they usually just say something like "did you see that thing at 9 o'clock on ITV last night?"

Judo

but cosh some ratings are just a sham - the thing!? Really not top 100?! And blade runner?! Shawshank is a good film but it forces its ideologies on the viewer at every freakin turn. Pretty much everything alludes to hope, belief, freedom etc throat rammed at us.plus its overly long and I'm not a prison drama fan. They make me yawn.

Snap snap byah. yah all the amazingly shit rom-drams are tv shows. Episodes 2,3,4 of god awful shit but awesome show Made in Chelsea are testament to that. Great lines such as...

girl - you're phoning to me while your working out at the gym?
Guy - yeah just sweatworking... networking while I sweat.

Makes me heavies lols that show. Ill add now that I don't have a tv aerial so most tv generally makes me lols with shititude. All the best ones are foreign though as their are a lot of good live action versions of various rom comics - western comics can't do romance and eastern comics can't do super heroes very well - strange cultural differences floating through the globe. I'd love to look into why different types of fiction are more popular in certain countries x

I actually love really bad tv regardless of genre, though shows like Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill that are at their heart rotten, hateful things devoid of even the tiniest sliver of humanity turn me off.
