So, back on-topic: the helmet looks genuinely impractical visually, I'm hoping the slo-mo looks less of a cliché in 3d and if there is an intention to blast away a 'Stallone look-alike' as a fan-pleaser: I reckon that's a little shabby and mean spirited.

Y'know I never once thought about the helmet watching that footage- looked too good. As far as the Stallone thing, that was a throwaway comment I made at 2:30 in the morning, 'twan't serious and I don't think people should extrapolate any more from that; no one will be pausing frames at the kinotech. Perspective is good along with sober criticism.

The only thing that I felt the I would have preffered to be done differently were mentioned earlier about pushing the light bloom too much in the slo-mo bit -but that's technical- other than that it's still only 10 seconds of footage which all looks good and I can barely be objective about.

Hey blackmocco, I'm curious, is this the kind of screening the aintitcool guys usually go to? If I recall correctly they often go to early screenings of films they can't review but they are allowed to tell people what they thought at least.

That's a 'press screening' not a test screening'.

HunterZolomon

Right, so it's basically a random selection of the target audience? How do you even get tickets/apply for that?

Well 3D's dark: so maybe it's a compensatory thing?

Nah. Wouldn't necessarily make it brighter, so to speak, and certainly wouldn't be the best way to approach it if you wanted to. It's a stylistic thing.

3D isn't dark, it's the glasses. This is overcome by a proper grade and properly adjusted levels for projection, which don't always happen.

Anyone else get the jitters at the mention of a 'test'-screening, this late in the game? Is that usual? They wouldn't re-cut it at this stage, shirley?

JOE SOAP

No, it'd be worse if they weren't allowing anyone to see it before release. It's a marketing screening.

You make it sounds like they maybe do it like GI Joe 2?

It just marketing screening as Mr Soap says.

HunterZolomon

So basically, the marketing will be influenced/directed by the reaction of the audience somehow? I ask the same as darnmarr, is that usual? Not being all doom and gloom, I'm genuinely curious.

darnmarr

G.I. Joe 2 is a historical anomily: I was just surprised by the prefix 'test'.
Call me testy.
or a scrot :D

No, it's because lot of the marketing work would be rendered pointless if people started plastering spoilers everywhere three months before the film came out. These screenings happen all the time for films, stop panicking.

HunterZolomon, darnmarr, I know you both ask lots of questions and wonder if Dredd will be bad, just dont worry, dont panic and wait for September, it will be awesome!

I can only reply to this as I have been replying to any one who says "It will be crap!"
What's exactly is your method of divination, my friend? astrology? tea leaves? or the entrails of a sacrificial animal?

Or are we all in the same pit of ignorance, with only Mocco scrambling to the top?
