Digital vs. film, an either-or situation?

Thought I'd put this discussion out here, would love to know what other forum-dwellers think...

I agree wholeheartedly with Chris Nolan, film is still unsurpassed in terms of overall quality; you simply cannot get that level of warmth, richness, and texture on a digital image, and whilst digital images have come along in very considerable leaps and bounds since the days of the horrendously artificial look of the Star Wars  prequels, in terms of resolution and overall quality, 35mm is still the standard by which all others should be judged upon, just my opinion anyway...

While I love the look of a 'proper' film (like when we watched Jaws the other night and loved the texture of the image), I'm somewhat puzzled how we expect our media to advance on tv, phones, computer screens etc. yet somehow film is somehow supposed to continue to look like an archaic medium.. Again, however, I reckon it should be used where necessary.. Some films definitely deserve the 35mm treatment, however there are plenty of films that suit digital photography more...
