Note to other 2000ad artists: More of this sort of thing, please! We fans like nothing more than a glimpse behind the scenes and getting things professionally printed is easy in this day and age.

Yes, a Mick McMahon sketchbook, would be nice. Thank you.

I should probably have stuck a link up to the free preview of the book itself; which is stunning, even on a laptop screen. Comparing Cam's pencils and inks to the computer coloured finished artwork makes you realise what a talent the man is.

I remember giving the Lobo book a body swerve because the color art looked a bit ropey- but the power and dynamism of the b/w page reproduced here looks better than anything Bisley did with the character. Even a colourist as good as Chris Blythe doesn't add anything to Cam's already vivid and fully realised artwork.

I posted a link to the page giving details on buying when I started the thread (and a link to the full preview is also on the first page of this thread).

Really happy to see people liking this; mine should be waiting for me when I get home after the weekend.  I'll try and get Cam and Tony to do a follow-up soon (and suggest something similar to Brendan McCarthy).

I think many artists may be put off doing sketch books, as they might have to contact all the publishers of certain characters for the right to publish their images. I imagine it could be a complete pain in the bottom negotiating with the half a dozen license holders that might be involved.

Mick McMahon, no...? I'd love a sketchbook of his too, Ming. Be so great to have a bunch of his art and styles between two covers. Make that happen willya? There's a good fella.

True, and Mick himself has said he's kept very little of his art. Doesnt even have much in the way of copies, either. So putting together a sketchbook, would be doubley problematic?

You have to email Tony Lariviere Large - his names highlighted on the link. The paypal address is the same but drop him a line so he can quote you for postage etc.

Tony's updated the page, which now reads as follows:

For those of you who are UK based you'll be interested to know that I sent a pile of copies to Cam, so you'll be able to buy it directly from Cam if you come across him at any conventions, and get it signed.

I've asked Cam to keep me up to speed with info on conventions he's hoping to attend in the near future. And what he tells me I will tell you.

For those of you who find yourselves at the convention in Andenne-Belgium, November 10-11, Cam will be there.

Check La Grande Ourse website for details and guests.

Thanks very much, ming...just sent my email. Cam's one of my all-time idols...i nearly wet myself the first time i met him at Hi-EX! ...and it didn't get much better this year either!?

Pete Wells

WOAH THERE BOYS!

I contacted Cam directly from his site and I'm buying mine (signed) from him. It'd probably work out cheaper than buying it from the other place and all the cash goes to Cam (though I'm adding a few quid extra anyway...)

Good stuff, Pete.  Did you just email Cam via his website?  Does he take PayPal now?  I asked him what his plans were for his stack of the sketchbook (100 copies) a week or so back, and figured he'd be selling them via conventions and the like.  Despite the hefty postage involved, it's still good to support Tony in Belgium as he put this thing together in the first place.
