Exactly as the subject header says: fascinating blog post by Mr Mills on the genesis of Dredd in 2000AD's earliest days.

Blog!

Yeah just stumbled across that via ECBT 2000ad, great read but more importantly PAT MILLS HAS A BLOG - now how much fun is this going to be!

Oooh! Didn't even know he had a blog.

Cripes, I thought the Prog was his blog.  Never hit that Bookmark button so fast.

EDIT: Just read it.  Gods but I love Pat.

And this:

QuoteThey were led by a manic and evil mod, straight out of Quadrophenia, who was the last person to be hanged in my alternative UK.  2000AD's  editor, Matt Smith, rejected it as being too nightmarish, especially the execution scene which had the tone and detail of Pierrepoint – the Last Hangman.  The  mod defiantly sings The Who's My Generation as he's dragged to the execution chamber and drops through the hatch.

Tharg, what were you thinking!?!  It must be!

Tord- Trust Tharg. I think he made the right call there.

Minus the mod, Pat's obviously chanelled that since into Defoe - you've got Jack Ketch and the constant ribbing from other characters at the mess he makes of his beheadings, and a scene in the very first series when all his previous hanging victims come back from the grave for revenge.

I know, I know, but it's the Mod-as-ringleader-of-the-vengeful-dead, it's just so beautiful.

The Mills Bomb promises his Cursed Earth feature (2 posts time) will contain "new info". If you haven't already bookmarked this blog, or at least had a rummage through it, you're missing some fascinating stuff from one of the few folk who knows exactly what went into the creation of your favourite stories and characters.

Pat Mills has posted a link to a NZ telly show on which he, Matt Smith and the Nerve Centre all feature. It's a media show, so it's as much about why the comic's still around as what makes it so great:

It confirms Jim Campbell's estimate of current sales too.

Did anyone else read the thread title as "Pat Mills' Buggery" and assume we'd sank to a new but probably inevitable low?

Spikes

Pretty nifty little video, that.
Though did the presenter really ask where was Tharg;)
