Did anyone see the cringe worthy One Show coverage?
They had Giles 'I cover all the silly stories' Brandreath making shit jokes all over it and then they asked Sarah 'If I wasn't fat and ugly I'd have no jokes' Millican to play a game in which she had to guess which, from a lineup of runners in fancy dress, were the genuine comic characters.
My favourite bit was when they asked Sarah Millican if she liked comics and she said disdainfully 'No because I'm 37'.
No one on the production team noticed that there's a difference between British children's humour titles like 'The Dandy' and American super hero comics.
Matt Baker did his 'Grandma's favourite' schtick throughout and Alex Jones was her usual bewildered self.

How charming. I wonder if you'd describe a male comedian in those reductive terms?

I would if they had such an incredibly narrow focus for all of their comedy. I'm not using any words to describe her that she hasn't used to describe herself.

It's no different from saying Bernard 'If I wasn't racist and sexist I'd have no jokes' Manning.

SmallBlueThing

Funnily enough, i was about to compare Millican to Manning as well. Or Les Dawson, without the charm, irony or jokes. She's really bloody awful. A female Russell Kane.

I dunno, I liked her on the episode of YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING I saw with her and Frankie Boyle...

Aw, poor guys. Did the nasty lady make fun of your comics?

So being self-deprecating means you are fair game for others to attack you? Is that how it works? If one of your acquaintances made a light-hearted dig at their weight, would you chime in with "Yeah, fatty"?

There are a great many infinitely more objectionable people on television than Millican, who, though I've never seen much of her standup material - always comes across as genuinely likable and incredibly sharp-witted in interviews.

Too right she's fair game! She was quite happy to make comments about all Norfolk people being interbred when she was on 'Frank Skinner's Opinionated' so as far as I'm concerned she can go fuck herself!

And if an acquaintance made a career out of laughing about his or her weight then, yeah, I may pitch in now and again. Sorry if that offends your delicate sensibilities.

SmallBlueThing

There is no one more objectionable than Millican on comedy panel shows, except Russell Kane, and John Bishop. And i didnt see The One Show.

Right, calm the f*** down. The lot of you. Either the conversation returns immediately to the original topic or I delete it and hand out temporary bans. First and only warning.

M.I.K.

Finally received the last issue in the post and realised I hadn't noticed anyone posting a link to this documentary yet...

Only a couple of days left to watch it on iplayer. Quite good despite Ford Kiernan bellowing loudly in a bizarre and terrifying way a couple of times.
