Other 2000 AD films you'd like to see

I think Bad Company would make a fantastic film. It's got everything; War, aliens, action, pathos, zombies, brilliant characters and a killer reveal in Kano's black box. It's a self contained story with a definite beginning, middle and end, has a great developing character arc for Danny Franks.

It's not as well known as other 2000 AD strips, so the chances of it getting to production are slim, but it's tailor made for the cinematic treatment.
Raised in the wild by sarcastic wolves.

Previously known as L*e B*tes. Sshhh, going undercover...

"Rouge" Trooper?

Interesting is not the word. And I imagine he would have a fairly exotic fanbase, lol !

I dunno...having Jessica Chastain & Jennifer Lawrence portraying a sexually ambiguous Venus & Rafe I may be persuaded to part with a few Groats...

'This' as they say.

QuoteA revised and updated adaptation of the Big Dave adventures in which all the UK troops in Muslim countries we had invaded were turned gay by a massive cock-shaped raygun, where Dave fucked and massacred the Royal family, and in which he wins the World Cup for England with a zombie resurrection of former glories. Starring Stephen Graham.

This, as they still say.  I want to see it.  Speaking of Grant Morrison I'd also like to see a Zenith TV series; possibly updated for the modern day (though it's hard to imagine Zenith without the 60's influence.  And whoever made that Slaine the Horned God animated trailer should make the whole film, but without the bleeding Gladiator music.
As for the problem of Danny Dyer's existence, I know two men who have a solution...

Zenith tv series yes. As for Slaine I'd really love to see the battle of Clontarf always very filmic the way David Pugh handled it. Only a few pages but mountains of bodies, Bosch-esque horrors, warp spasm and chariot axel sickle blade snapping carnage.

Flesh could work, like a hardcore Jurassic Park.

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm concerned about

Flesh & Robo-Hunter probably wouldn't fly because they would be seen as "rip-offs"

That was a huge part of the appeal of the first two series to me as well, but the Eighties are currently bathed in a similar piss-coloured nostalgia to that through which Grant Morrison and myself viewed the Sixties at the fag end of the Eighties. Moving the timeline along in that way does present another problem, in that the UK wasn't involved in a war with Germany in the Sixties, but I suppose the characters would be transposed to the USA in any film adaptation anyway.

I'm hating the idea more and more as I type, but at least the prospect of film dollars might force Morrison and Rebellion to come to some kind of gentleman's agreement concerning ownership and get those books back into print.

So a Shane Meadows/ HBO collaboration Zenith tv series.

Insert my now-standard plea for kids' film/tv series based on Robo-Hunter: Verdus here.

Cheers!

Bad Company and Strontium Dog would make excellent and entertaining films, but if the sorry story of Dredd's theatrical run has taught us anything, it's that the road to box office heaven is not paved with R-rated action films. Unless pretty much everyone is able to see a film it's doomed to be sidelined by distributors and cinema chains for something which covers all their bases.

I made the point during Brass Sun's run in the prog that it was exactly the kind of fantasy IP with franchise potential, adolescent leads and the opportunity for lashings of CGI which studios are desperate to stick their latest Jennifers and Jessicas into. In a similar vein, I remember the first series of the John Ridgeway illustrated Summer's Magic having an unique atmosphere and interesting premise, and it offers the chance to pair pubescent crush material with an older male lead who give the accompanying parents something to watch.

The subsequent Luke Kirby stories were as much tosh as everything else Alan Mackenzie committed to paper, but you could just keep flinging money and Dame Judi Dench at the screen and hope no-one noticed. That series again falls foul of those pesky ownership and copyright disputes, though.

Meadows turned Tommo Turgoose into an actor, so I'm sure he could perform a similar feat with Justin Bieber as Robert McDowell. They could repurpose Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer tunes to serve as Zenith's back catalogue and all the wee Beliebers would buy the shite out of it.

Heh, Tharg be cashing mad cheques off that one son. There would be Glee-like musical num bers too. Sheesh (wince).

This retro Zenith thing is brilliant. You could have a whole bucketload of now forgotten rave dudes and other minor eighties cultural outcroppings appearing as the heroes from other alternatives in phase 3. Adamski as Jimmy Quick; her out of Opus III as Mantra; Mark Moore as DJ Chill; The Reynolds Girls as Tiger Tom and Tammy; The Phantom Flan Flinger as Robot Archie.

Big yucks for Tiger Tom and Tammy. Domino was based on Nicky Wire anyway, and I'm going for Todd Terry as DJ Quick rather than Mr S'Express. The terrifying Mr Why could only be played by Moby, the mention of whose name has always made my blood run cold.
