Erm...don't know if anyone's aware of this, but there was an episode of Doctor Who on TV today.

A decent enough episode I thought, without being anything spectacular. I liked seeing the book called "The History of the Time War" although I always thought it would be something that would be impossible to chronicle.

I wasn't sure what to say about it. Over the years, I've watched episodes and thought "That was bad" (or worse) on some episodes but tonight's episode had me sitting there thinking "This is boring." It got a little interesting for me in the last fifteen or so minutes but it just seemed lacking in substance. I also had this horrible feeling that somebody in the BBC had ordered an episode- any old episode- to feature shots of things from old episodes or referring to old episodes but to more importantly, show lots of things in the TARDIS that have been mentioned so we can finally see them. So a load of money can be made at Christmas with a new improved TARDIS playset being made available.
Bonus points however for having men in rubber suits as the 'zombies'. That's right- I prefer men in suits or puppetry to most CGI.

I enjoyed it. It was really interesting to see more of the tardis.
The time-bomb reset thing was a bit dodgy though
, but apart from that, a good enjoyable thought provoking episode.

I thought this episode was only middling. Not bad, but nothing to shout about either. With the tour of the TARDIS I think I was hoping for more of a set up towards something really big.

I just looked at the opinions over on the SFX forum, largely tends to be rated as being average. Somebody says it's another Gatiss episode next week and then only two remain. Anybody know if that's true? I found it easier to keep count when you just had one continuous run.

Taryn Tailz

Yep. Gatiss episode next week, then Neil Gaiman's Cyberman episode, and then the season finale.

Gatiss episodes can be hit and miss but at least he has a likeable cast in place going by the advert for next week. Expectations are high for the penultimate (after Gaiman's last contribution) and final (in my opinion, you can always rely on Moff to give it a good send off regardless of how the series has turned out in general) here then!

at least the day wasn't saved by someone crying/praying/BELIEVING, so that's a big mark up for me, i thought it some nice touches and enjoyed the Run! bits which I haven't in a long time.
DDT did a job on me

It was strangely disappointing - I felt there was so much scope for it to be good, but it just trundled on without ever really thrilling me. I get it that the monsters were Clara and the salvage guys from the future, but why/how did they get turned into living charcoal zombies? Why did those two blokes get fused together?

I was looking out for nods to classic Who as they've been coming thick and fast this series - We hear the closer bell chiming early on (4th Doctor) and Clara picks up an umbrella (7th) at one point, but given the setting, there could have been many more (and cooler) examples

Well, the Eye of Harmony is a pretty big nod..!

Dandontdare

Yeah I guess so! - Was this ever mentioned before (or since) the 8th doctor film?

Oh, there was also a montage of overheard voices too going back through all the doctors, but this schtick has been done better before.

and that should cloister!

Richmond Clements

The Eye of Harmony was in the Baker story The Deadly Assassin. So the next episode should reference a Davison Doctor story...

The Doctor said that they could only stay in the chamber for a short period before it would affect them.

They were joined together because they were supporting each other when it they started becoming a bit toasty.
