Somebody asks why the writer of the episode was given another episode after he had written 'Black Spot' (?). Cue me about to google said episode...

Hadn't realsied it was the same bloke who wrote 'Black Spot', in which case well done that man as this was 8634 times better that that episode, which was (and I look all this stuff up in a big posh book to make sure its FACT) the worst episode of NuWho ever. That includes all the X-Mas specials and end of Tennant era Specials.

I did Google Black Spot last night and my first thought was "Yeah, that was a pretty bad episode."
But then a picture of Amy in her pirate getup appeared and this anger appeared as I got to thinking about how Clara is the companion now. The night ended with me curled up in a ball, sobbing to myself as I sang a slightly altered version of the "Sweet Jaime" song that Lee Majors sang in the episode which The Bionic Woman died.
Some may think I'm joking, but I really think the BBC should have found a way to keep Amy (and even Rory) in place for a while longer.

Nah, Amy's character was around for a season too long - her story was well and truly told. Rory was a much more interesting character, but unfortunately we couldn't have one without the other.

Say's a bunch of codgery old men who complained about a drawing of a bird with her flappers out! Honestly, continue to hound me with these insults and I will be reporting some of you. Cease these childish attacks immediately.  >:(

Where is the connection between these two things, other its demonstration of your across-the-board stupidity? You're going to retreat behind protestations of "No fair! Waaah! Waaah! The nasty boys are mean to me!"

You want to put forward your opinions in an environment where no one can challenge them? Get a fucking blog. You put forward an opinion on a discussion forum, it's going to get discussed. You put forward a stupid opinion on a discussion forum, someone is quite likely to point out that it's stupid.

Again: are you equating Cloverfield with a prime-time TV show? Let's leave aside this bizarre attempt to drag in the Halo Jones controversy, which has no relevance whatsoever and just answer the question.

I'm not insulting you, I'm suggesting that getting irate over a toy aimed at children made by the makers of a family TV show is odd behaviour for a grown man, and that attempting to draw a parallel between that and either found-footage horror/action movie or a topless image of a pre-existing character with strong feminist overtones, is fucking stupid.

As I have already observed, there is a very simple way to ensure that people don't call your opinions stupid.

I don't know... Until recently, a part of me thought the criticism aimed at Clara was a little unfair; she's only just turned regular character and she's following Amy, who's competition really had been Catherine Tate (it still seems so wrong typing that name) and one or two people from the Davis finale "specials". But now I just find myself thinking how I'd rather have Amy and Rory all the more. Although then again, it's not as if Clara has had many decent episodes to shine in so far; she's still in the more-bad-than-good category so maybe it could change. One day.

Lets just drop this please, im not willing to risk my position here over an issue of artistic over indulgence. Want to talk like this civily, take it to PM.

I think I've made my position perfectly clear.

I think part of the problem is Clara is (right now, at least) a puzzle/plot device first and a character second. It's one of Moffat's 'failings' as a Doctor Who writer, in seemingly taking a long time to craft strong characters, despite clearly having an ability to work with complex plots and interesting ideas. (His other issue is pacing, but that's in part down to Doctor Who's lack of episodes and seems to have been addressed in this latest run.)

Still, I'll take this over RTD's Doctor Soap any day, and I love the fact they get away from present-day Earth rather more frequently than Eccles/DT managed.

Enjoyed that one. Best so far this year.
Albeit a bit of a crap creature  :P

Always great to see more Strax, Jenny and the lizard lady. (I liked Thomas Thomas too)

An old-school, no-bullshit, boys-own action/adventure comic reminiscent of the 2000ads and Eagles and Warlords and Battles and other glorious black-and-white comics that were so, so cool in the 70's and 80's - Buy the hardback Christmas Annual!

Bah! For some reason I thought it was on at 7, so it's off to Iplayer I go.

I thought it had its moments but at the same time (for me) it seems best described as "Better than last week's" but that's not saying much at all when you think about it. And then, in the last few minutes you had the kids Clara looks after popping up and within seconds I was thinking "Don't even dare have these two featuring heavily in an episode". Which was followed by an advert for next week's- the Gaiman Cybermen episode I'd been looking forward to- and you saw the same bloody kids are off on an adventure with The Dr. Part of me is already thinking "After all the excitement I was holding for the Cybermen episode, are we going to have Cybermen destroyed by childhood innocence or something?"

I've just seen on the SFX Forum somebody suggesting the end
where Clara happily says "I'm the boss... I'm the boss..."
could maybe be suggesting that
Clara is going to be revealed as being The Master.
I think that's more than a little doubtful but I can't help but think that would be great! Just imagine it-
new feisty companion struggling to win the appreciation of the "Whovians" turns out to be a major villain and she didn't know!
The series finale is no doubt going to be a big disappointment for me when this indeed isn't the case!
But I can dream it is.

I enjoyed that episode. Overall it was very well done. Was it just me was the music throughout the programme simply pulled out of Ripper Street?

The only real issue I had with this episode was the magic sonic screwdriver cure of the crimson venom. Dark room, bit of steam, and wave the wand. Weak.

Dandontdare

That final bit with the kids made me suspect they're building up to another Sarah-Jane type kids spin-off.

An enjoyable episode I thought, although I'm caring less and less about Clara as we go on. The Silurian/human/sontaran trio make a great little group - there's enough humour in there without the need for stupid tom-tom gags.
