Yeah, I'd be gutted if another Dredd strip meant we couldn't have 20 pages of photo strip. :p
This. I'd possibly burn my entire collection in protest.

Ouch. I quite enjoy American Reaper. I reckon the Meg is a good place for it to be, as this sort of storytelling would not work in the weekly (IMO).

Arf! The problem being that it would likely be two different Dredds and 20 pages of Look In.
We never really die.

I'm really liking the idea of this. What I'd like to see is a bit more of the film's version of Mega City One. I loved the more grounded, realistic vibe it had. Found it very striking. If I can have one thing in this new story, that would be it.  :)
Ma Ma's not the law... (you know the rest)

Wow, sounds like an awesome idea! And like some have already stated, i would love to see Henty Flint or Kev Walker on art duties; Flint's work for the prequel story (Top of the world, Ma Ma) was awesome. And so much better than his very recent work on Zombo in my opinion.

Don't worry, you can draw the sequel to the '95 film.

Ah, now. But. What if they combined the two? A follow-up 3D photostrip using DR3DD screencaps? Then what, huh? Well?
Not sure if pervert or cheesecake expert.

Why when we already have a great Dredd strip already? I dont actually see the point of this.
Hmm, just pretend I wrote something witty eh?

Drawing in fans of the movie who haven't picked up the prog / meg yet? It's a possible untapped market. Smart move imo.

I'll admit to thinking the same thing when I knew IDW were doing their own version of Dredd. Not so much the second sentence - I can see the point -  but I still think it's a shame that they didn't find a market in the States for 2000 AD or the Meg- I.e. our dredd- rather than creating their own continuity. (I am intrigued by the Matt Smith scripted year 1 series, but I'd have preferred it to have been set in our Dredd's continuity.)

I am very much looking forward to the upcoming film strip though. Again, I see your point, after all they're essentially the same character, but I am intrigued to see where they take this. And it could be an alternate 'early days of Dredd' story.

Shouldnt the film have done that? How is a new Dredd comic going to attract people who arent interested in reading an already existing Dredd comic?

A lot of the people who saw Dredd likely weren't comic fans, or at least weren't Dredd fans but read comics, but quite a large amount of them have vocalised that would like to see a continuation of film-Dredd at least in some form. It's also something else to put in the Megazine to attract readers and buyers for a while. I don't see how anyone can see it as a bad idea. The reaction to this announcement from fans of the film and the publicity it's gotten outside 2000AD's circle of influence is an indicator of that.

If it's a one-off or seldom special-feature rather than a continuous strip, how is it bad for Rebellion, and why should they not exploit this extension of their property that has gained another pool of interest?

Considering the general increase in sales of Dredd related publications outside the UK since the film's release and the its growing audience via retail video sales, I can't think of a better idea. Not everyone will buy it of course but plenty will, especially if 2000AD get it on their app and elsewhere, digitally.

More sales = good.
