I'm happy to find out there reprints are coming out. I had planned on hunting for the old Eagle reprints at a comic con next saturday. Now I'll wait for these.

COMMANDO FORCES

Just put my order in for these and booked my subscription copy for the gorgeous wraparound!
Thought I'd show the pics, as you know people can't be bothered scrolling all the way down that link  ;)

That buckle's almost a cod-piece.

I, Cosh

Hmm. I know which one I prefer.

We never really die.

Seems like the Free Comic Book issue is just going to be "Judge Death" & "Walter's Brother"

Realistically I could've just checked the page counts of the first two Death stories, that alone pretty much would've disproved the sites mentioning both  :-[

If that's the case then I don't think I'll bother picking it up to be honest. Hopefully IDW will colour "Judge Death Lives" at a later date.

Judge Brian

I picked up IDW's Free Comic Book Day offering. Good modern coloring, but I still can't get used to Anderson being blonde. She was a redhead in the Eagle comics reprints in the 80's & a redhead in Judgment on Gotham.

James Stacey

Was she? She's always been blonde. Not sure I totally liked the colouring job in the fcbd Dredd but its not terrible. I shall be buying it nonetheless no doubt.

I thought the colouring was fine—inoffensive and typical of modern fare. Personally, I like the really hardcore and vibrant old-school colours in 2000 AD, but even 2000 AD rarely does that these days. I did find backing Judge Death with Walter stories a bit of an odd decision, though; I would have thought another cracking Dredd would have made more sense.

Juxtoposition? Oxymoronic? Either way, it was a good choice to get new readers in as an iconic, yet quick read.

I thought the colouring was really good on Death, nice and dark and seemed really fitting. Would liked to have seen the Wally stories feel a bit more different that they did to give me faith that going forward this will all be fine. But hey it looked okay. Trouble is the need for a large margin at the bottom of the strip to sort the size issues means the art is quite compressed into a relatively small area.

That means that the ongoing series will be a trade wait I think. Shame but I'd like to see how they handle the size issues in trade before committing.

Judge Brian

I'm guessing they reprinted the Walter strips in the free issue because most readers wouldn't like paying for the Walter strips.

Probably, also one of the Walter strips was a 1-page story so that at least can be understood as a way to fill out the page quota.

I think IDW were originally planning to colourise their Brian Bolland book (not sure if that's still happening now), so its likely these were left overs from that.

IndigoPrime

It just seems an odd way to get people into Dredd. The Death strip is a classic, but the Walter stuff... isn't. Still, maybe people will like the art.

Spikes

Yeah those Walter strips were just fluff, but its Bolland - always a big selling point, on the art.
Plus what Judge Brian said.

Silent_Bomber

Anyone else checked out the 7 page preview for issue #3?

I'm a little concerned, it looks like they've changed colourist and the new guy might be basing his colouring on the horrible old Eagle colours, Dredd is now wearing dark blue instead of the black from the recent Block Mania.
