The colours in that image look completely different to the CBR version, which I didn't think would be an issue with digital reproduction.

Looking at the promo image again, it does feature completely different colouring - the gun isn't an obviously kiddified yellow and the belt detail is red instead of green.

I've got it. That is not Dredd! Dredd arrives on the Lawmaster and is confronted by the jimp, who has arrived in that Mad Max Justice vehicle and then the story continues. One question, is Dredd gay?

Your response to Bisley's very popular and influential take on Dredd, with eagle designs which varied from panel to panel, must have been priceless, John. He and his adherents (Staples, Brashill, Murray, Critchlow, Gillespie) were adding extraneous detail such as metal shin guards and strapping, and enormous lawgivers which looked like the exhaust systems of Harley Davidsons for the best part of a decade. Cliff Robinson and Inaki Miranda do similar today, and the bike seems fair game for individual interpretation these days as well.

Steve is correct, it has been re-coloured. The strange pouch is now part of the leathers, WTF

The more i see this, the more i like it. Just cant quite fathom the 'teddy bear' gun. But if Mr Wolk says wait and see, then thats good enough for me.
I too had been pondering about the artist, and who his style reminded me of, and Sauchie  hits it on the head by mentioning Geof Darrow.

It looks like Mega City 2 wil be a Repo Man-ish L.A. with the Rodriguez Bros. and kangaroo courts all up to their eyes in Philip K. Dick's kipple. I wouldn't want it otherwise.

The second version somehow looks a lot more intentional, whereas the original looked like it might have just been sloppy...  The MC2 it hints at actually looks rather intriguing.

I'm a sucker for that level of detail, not 100% sold on the uniform but looking forward to this. Especially intrigued by the speculation as to the state of MC 2.

If you ask me, destroying MC2 was always a big mistake, and it's a shame it has never been explored properly until now.

Tbh I'd like it to be retconned to an extent - just say the city has been rebuilt or something - it's been over twenty years now after all.

I imagine that City of Courts (is that a pun or reference?) will be set before Judgement Day.

City of Courts: Socializing Justice in Progressive Era Chicago - Michael Willrich

What could be more "liberal" than believing in society's responsibility for crime--that crime is less the product of free will than of poverty and other social forces beyond the individual's control? And what could be more "progressive" than the belief that the law should aim for social, not merely individual, justice? This work of social, cultural, and legal history uncovers the contested origins and paradoxical consequences of the two protean concepts in the cosmopolitan cities of industrial America at the turn of the twentieth century.

Love this description.

Also- Tupac blvd!

Being new to Dredd I find myself going over every inch of every page so I don't miss any little detail that might otherwise go unnoticed.

So cheeky!

The second picture definitely looks a lot better and I don't mind a little artistic interpretation but there is no way that gun is a Lawgiver.  Why would anyone stick a bear head on it and more importantly, it just looks too darn small - like Bond's Walther PPK!

Also, what is hanging from his left boot?  It looks like a can opener!

Delighted to see all the interest in this! I'm gonna stay out of this discussion for now, I think, except 1) to note that my answers to a lot of the points that have been raised are "uh-huh! you'll see!," and 2) to post the complete cover to #1 (via the amazing Ulises Farinas' Twitter feed) by Ulises and colorist Owen Gieni.

Well our interest is piqued - pretty sure quite a few of us will be grabbing the first issue.

As Ulises is a former ACTIVATEcomix alumni I feel very well disposed towards this project. It probably won't be like anything we've seen before...and that's a good thing.

Si.

The Elegant Universe man!  I knew I knew the name from somewhere!  Blimey, this is going to be different.
