I'd likely have done the same SimeonB.  I was 6 when it was out, so would probably would have kept the stickers after (being forced by my parents) peeling them off, but obviously they'd have ended up stuck to the pages ruining the comic!

Good luck with the sale Betel_UK, I must say I had seen your listing, and had it not been for the one I missed the other week going for sub 200 (some lucky bugger out there!) I'd have been SERIOUSLY tempted by yours mate. It'll only be a couple of years before the prices they fetch make yours look like you're giving it away. ;)

Wow Betel, that's some serious forward thinking for a 10 year old!  Any tips for the stock market? :p

Well, I for one am very happy that Prog 1 and 2 have gone to good homes... though they may miss the occasional glimpse of Australian sun.

Now, if anyone's got a really nice copy of prog 3 (sans gift), that'd make me a happy man.

In the meantime, make Betel (the scary forward-planner) happy and free him of the weighty responsibility of Progs 1 & 2 with gifts...!

Just in case anyone's contemplating making an offer on these... I've had an offer on eBay for the Prog 2 that I'm half-minded to accept... I've got about 24 hours left before I need to decide...

betel_uk

I've accepted the offer on the Prog 2 but the Prog 1 is still up for grabs if anyone is interested...

Prog arrived today, and I'm a happy badger. :D

Although there was that wee creeping sensation that we have to be fackin' mental to spend so much money on stuff like this!  You can actually see through the sticker sheet almost!

Thanks again Inkylittlemonkey!

Lovely.  Enjoy, Mr MacRoth!

...and yes, I get that creeping feeling too.  But then when I'm flicking through an old newsprint prog with that papery smell of my childhood, all is forgotten.

All the sets of prog 2 stickers I've seen in recent years seem to have gone "translucent" with age... I'm guessing it's just a chemical reaction of the glue over time... Yet the stickers still seem firmly attached to the backing sheet. Not sure what the perfect storeage conditions would be?

What about those vac bags where you use a vacuum cleaner to suck the air out. I dunno about the physics, but it probably creates a cheap hermetically sealed container. My parents put my comics in them about 12 years ago, and I got them out the other day and them seem OK. I would pack them in cardboard, as the vac process can bend the paper a bit (they weren't creased, just a bit bent).

Mind you, my entire comic collection isn't worth one of these early Progs, so maybe others might have a more tried and tested idea for valuable comics! :) Perhaps those Lock & Lock food containers that create a seal around food to keep it from spoiling for longer?

Incidentally, there is now a spare prog 2 in my collection if anyone is looking for one!  No stickers of course.....

Although, I suppose I could scan and print a set on sticky paper, and bung them in with it as a 'repro' extra?

And as for storage, I find that the cardboard boxes made for comics, combined with the mylar bags and a cool dry environment seems to be the best most of us can hope for.

Cool dry environment...? Crap. Then my attic storage in an Australian summer is stuffed as an option...!

And ghost, bizarrely enough, in my travels I actually got a repro of prog 2 stickers on paper - though for some odd reason at 1/2 the size of the original... I can send you it if you want it...

Ghost MacRoth

Cheers Monkey, but I'll just print one at work if I bother to do it!  Dunno if it'd be worthwhile?

I'm tempted.  What is a Prog 2 sans stickers worth these days?

Ghost MacRoth

According to this forum, £100.  I see a couple on Ebay starting at £25, so someplace between those two prices I guess?
