Hmmm, seems like quite a lot of stuff has just gone missing - the first step would be to contact the police.  After that, the next issue seems to be to try and get the sewage/mould issue sorted once and for all - it sounds like that needs constant chasing of the landlord and council.  Sounds like Adrian might not be great at that sort of thing but ultimately its them who will fix it and they are the people you need to keep hassling until its done.

As for the damage/theft - has he spoken to the landlord with regards to what insurance cover he has?  There might be a means of claiming through that.  If not, the Citizens Advice Bureau are the best people to talk through the other options.

Hope it gets sorted soon.  Maybe you shouldn't have included the full address, Richmond can remove if you want.

Adrian has reported the thefts to the police as soon as he discovered them. But we know that it is the landlord who has taken these items.

Two council workers came to assess what needs to be done and subject to confirmation that they are right by using an endoscopic camera to see the state of the drains they will have to dig up the hallway (& the only entrance to the flat) to rectify the sewage problem.

The landlord will have to foot the bill for this work.

These gus also confirmed Adrian's suspicions that had the idiotic landlord had just spent the £300 replacing the faulty saniflow pump... All the subsequent problems would not have happened.

If these repairs are not carried out soon... The residents in the flat up stairs will be next to suffer.

The musty smell of mold is now so strong you can only stay inside the flat for a few minutes before you have to leave and clear your lungs out....

I have written to Adrian's MP. (Actually he is mine as well), complaining that I did not think it was right about how long he was waiting to get something done about repairs / compensation.

It has been a week since I have done so and I have yet to receive a reply.

Usually you get one within 48 hours.

This is unacceptable. I have a suspicion that as I also stated Adrian's address in the letter that the idiots may have sent the reply to HIS address....

Things have gotten from bad to worse.

Tuesday Adrian returned to his flat to discover that the landlord has changed the locks. His property ( and some items I lent him) are still inside. The landlord didn't contact him to say that they were going to do this. Adrian reported it to the police to be told that it was a civil matter. I am certain that it is not. I am going today to help rescue stuff in Adrian's shed.

Also when going through paperwork Adrian discovered that the rent that he had been paying was going in to an account with his name on it... He didn't open it but it looks like fraud to me....

Does anyone live in the Croydon area and can lock pick?

And I still have not received a response from our MP. Niether has Adrian. This is disgusting....

In all seriousness; if you are prepared to pick the lock why not just kick the door in?

I know this could be regarded as breaking and entering but it would be the same as picking the lock, and probably more satisfying given how this seems to be playing out.

Cheers

Because it isn't physically possible to do so.

The Doctor Alt 8

Well the flat remains uninhabitable...

the sewage pump and pipelines have been repaired by the council... but can't work because there is no electricity to the flat as all the electrics are ... flooded..

Mold continues to flourish on ever dampening walls. THIS weather is NOT helping

And the ceilings plasterboard in the hallway fell down.

The council have failed after 2 months to respond to two MP's letters about the place.

Newspaper and a mixture of golden syrup paste (see how to make fly paper with golden syrup for the mixture) over the window. Smash it in. (this will lessen the noise and stop glass flying everywhere). In through the window. Get all the stuff out. Leave. And find a new flat.

And if the water is still on be sure to block the sinks and leave all the taps running too.

That's exactly what I would have done months ago. There is little other advice anyone can give other than wash hands of the whole thing and move on.

Oh he would like to... the landlord has stated that he no longer wants Adrian as a tenant but refuses to serve him with eviction papers.

we both get the impression that Croydon council wishes to fix the property and then when it is made habitable again... force Adrian to move back in because they think it would be cheaper than find him suitable accommodations on their list.
(Council illogic at it's finest!)
The residents in the flat immediately upstairs are now complaining of damp and apparently there is an unfixed leak in the roof of the property....

so the damp from above will meet the damp from below....

The Doctor Alt 8

The flat has officially been condemned by the council...
the tenant in the flat up stairs has now complained because the damp has infected his flat to...

Well that's something at least.  Maybe things (and people) can move on now.
