While trying to explain Mean Machine's current status to my lad, I checked his wikipedia page.

It says:

"In a parallel universe, ruled by Judge Dread (an insane version of Judge Dredd), Mean Machine is one of Dread's lieutenants and has a fifth setting - Book a Plot in the Cemetery."

Is this Scojo at work? Or have I somehow missed this?

No idea. But I'm out of the loop on some of stories and recently heard MM was dead (again)... is that the case?...

Greg M.

I'm guessing it's from the novel 'Dread Dominion'.

He was basically retired in Tour of Duty. He had the neurosurgery reversed and is now just a sweet natured pensioner with learning difficulties, looked after by his boy. I've never read the elseworld story referenced above.

That's from the Virgin novel 'Dread Dominion' by Stephen Marley.  Both Mean and Judge Cal have Zardoz-type floating head H-wagons as well, if I recall.  The book was a lot better than it sounds from that, though; it's just not a particularly good Judge Dredd book.

Also, regular Mean Machine can get stuck of 4-and-a-half which counts as another setting.  Sort of.

Thanks Sauchie...just retirement then.

Just as well your not trying to explain IDW's version of MM.

It's all right, that's in every contract.
That's what they call a sanity clause.
You can't fool me, there ain't no sanity clause.

That's not a dial, it's a clock to remind him what time it is.  And also to not appear in Stallone films again.

Yes, that was a very nice little ending to the Mean Machine story.  No big macho fights to the death, just Dredd giving quiet approval to Mean's release.  With a lesser writer it might be one of those 'creep's still a creep, release or no release' bit of Dredd belligerence followed by a fatal standard execution round as Mean predictably loses it for the last time, but instead Wagner gave us a touching moment of the closest Dredd gets to pathos and a happy ending for a great character.

What are IDW up to!

:'(

I don't think it's a big mystery or anything - the writer is only aware of the version of the Angel Gang from the Stallone movie.

COMMANDO FORCES

He actually gave it five terms (not including any of the four that we know) in an earlier picture, so didn't take those from the Stallone film. Perhaps the artist didn't want to write those again!

He looks like Jughead in a Halloween mask.

Have you seen the news about the "Afterlife with Archie" series that's coming up?  It starts off like 'The Moses Incident' but with Hotdog instead of the boy.
