Sorry must have missed the bit about your family moving to Guernsey - hope that all goes okay. Good luck finding somewhere to keep your impressive stash soon.

Thanks Colin, yeah it's a big move for them, we are travelling over on the sunday. There are no real job opportunities for me out there so it wouldn't be the wisest move for myself (Tordels and DDD spoke some sense into me) but on my current income I should be able to find a nice little abode, nothing to fancy. And i'll bloody well need some book shelves!

A small update (mod button, why you go so quickly!)but I just filled 5 large travelling boxes of comics. I blame you all, of course, for the recommendations.

Alright one more thing and here seem's as good a place as anywhere to ask, but I was in the wake of loving Daredevil Season 2 and looking up various volumes the B/W reprints smack of value for you buck. But what on earth is the difference between the Essential line and the Epic collection?

But what on earth is the difference between the Essential line and the Epic collection?

The Essential Collections (now sadly ended and a lot of the volumes are out of print) are black and white, newprint collections in order of any given series or character. You'd get 25-30 issues in a volume typically.

Epic Collection, which are ongoing, are colour collections of about 20 issues (or a little less maybe) on better(ish) paper. They however take a more scatter gun approach to what they reprint and pluck stuff out in seemingly random order (normally trying to avoid stuff that's already been reprinted elsewhere) and as they come out every 6 months for a given series it'll be a long time before they get to complete runs, if ever.

Both however do offer great value... BUT...

In terms of Daredevil the Essential Collections didn't get to the good stuff really. The last volume, 6 got up to issue 146 which is about a year (or more actually possible as it might have been bi-monthly at this time) before Frank Miller made it the book it would become. There is a fantastic Epic Collection volume called 'A Touch of Typhiod' which reprints a bunch of my favourite comics ever BUT get yourself to the 'Any Daredevil Fans' thread for plenty of recommendations (including me wittering about the comics in the aforementioned collection) and I'd also strongly recommend the recent Waid stuff it challenges the Nocenti stuff in my affections.

Daredevil is without doubt the character that seems to get the best out of some great writers and he has probably, pound for pound, more truly great runs than any other character... look just go to the DD thread there's a lot of info there and you'll see my affection for the chap!

Alright, what about Moon Knight, or Ghost Rider? Or Iron Fist and Luke Cage, all characters i've wanted to read more of for a good while with apparently solid runs. Packing all this stuff up from it's scattered all over yonder show formation has made me realise how little Marvel I own, only the complete Captain Britain runs Marvel/Panini put out awhile ago, and the two Deaths Head books. Smashing though they are it's high time I broadened my appreciation for the books, as my distaste towards the big two only extends to their current trends and i'm sure i'm missing out on a lot of classic stuff as a result.

If you have a tablet, a Marvel Unlimited subscription is a good investment...

Oh just perserve with the DD stuff. It is the best comic Marvel has ever done. Personally if you are looking for more 'classic' stuff I've always like the Spidey stuff.

I'm glad someone rebooted this thread as I've just done a bit of reworking in my library.  A tall bookcase I had was starting to come away so I decided to buy some new, shorter, ones to replace it.  Rather than lug them all the way home in a taxi I used Argos' Hub-to-Home same day delivery system (little plug for my employer there).

Nice collection, well displayed!

So is Hack/Slash worth a go, then? I've tried a couple of singles but couldn't seem to get into it.

Drool! Some truly brilliant series there, Tombo, and it looks gorgeous!

But I didn't know there where Warhammer 40K comics?! Where can I buy this mighty tome?

Cheers guys.

Tordles: Hack/slash is a bit hit and miss, some stories are pretty good, others not so good and to be honest I've only got about half way through the third omnibus, I might give it another go soon.

Hawkmumbler:- The Wh40k books were published by Boom! back in around 2007/8 I picked them up from the clearance section in Forbidden Planet a few years ago so they're possibly out of print now.  The bigger Volume "Only War" has stories written by Dan Abnett and Ian Edginton whilst the other is actually the fifth volume in a series about the Ultramarines.

Is it my imagination or did Walt Simonson have something to do with that Warhammer 40K stuff? Or was that Warhammer regular?

Anyway lovely display, those shelves almost look like they were deliberately designed for comics!

Thanks Colin_YNWA, they're pretty good shelves but not quite perfect, the spacing holes for the shelves don't allow for three rows of full sized trades (as you can see though the middle shelf is ideal for smaller books), and they're quite deep so books can be pushed back if you're not careful (I use the boxes from the Star Trek Starship collection to keep books to the front, two rows of boxes are the perfect size).

Not sure about Mr Simonson's work of Warhammer, he's certainly not listed in the two books I've got.

Thanks, Tombo, that Only War TPB appears to be a bitch to find, like most Warhammer comics they seem to have been snapped up by the target fan base. A shame, really.

Oh and I just noticed your rather lovely Usagi Yojimbo and Tardi collections. Very, very nice comics indeed!
