'World Without End' by Jamie Delano and GORGEOUS John Higgins art

Tjm86

Edginton and D'israeli's adaptation of War of The Worlds and it's sequels are well worth a read for my money, especially for D'israeli's art.  Alien Legion has it's moments as well.

Seconded Tjm they are the pride of my shelf and some of my favourite ever comics - ! :D

Dark Horse also did a really nice job on them.  Quality hardbacks.  Scarlet Traces (reprinted in the Meg) and The Great Game both have a nice sketch gallery at the end with commentary by D'israeli.  A piece of his work from any of these would go down as a Grail Piece for me I think!

That book - or maybe the indifferent reception afforded to that book - seemed to break Higgins, though. Much as I admire his subsequent work, I can't help feeling sad that he abandoned the lush colours and fantastic attention to detail which characterised everything between Last of the Bad Guys and The Shooting Match.

Going back a little, there are the Preacher tpbs by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon that were also reprinted in the Meg.  These are well worth a read.

Dandontdare

The Garth Ennis & Gary Erskine version of Dan Dare is well worth a look.

At the time this series really stood out, seemed a proper labour of love. Astounding art.

Anybody hear of the reprints of White Thrash and Orson Wells, Secret Agent reprints coming out next year by Gordon Rennie? Here's the announcment on Robot6.

Mark Taylor

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions. Already have the War of the Worlds, Scarlet Traces and sequel hardbacks though. :) I would highly recommend them too.

One of my all time favourites and quite brilliant. Grateful to an Irish man for making me more aware of what it is to be British than I can remember!

Oh yes. This one is a beaut. I also second the motion for Scarlet Traces.

Also, Metalzoic shouldn't be too expensive. I bought the DC trade on eBay last year and I don't remember being shocked by the price.

The colouring's kind of horrible, though.

Fungus

Metalzoic colouring is pretty garish.
The prog's bogroll paper beats it for me, sacrilege I know.

Bob The Galactic Bum is quite bizarre but very entertaining as well.

I vaguely recall Wagner offering Bob the Galactic Bum to the Megazine as potential reprint fodder in the dark days of filler-rama.
