Last year there were some good covers, but nothing really mind blowing for me.  Only two really stood out for me when I received them in the post, so the third will have to be a pure aesthetic choice from what's left.

1830-  Looks better with all the text, it has to be said.  An amazing mock vintage 2000AD cover, it actually brought a smile to my lips when I removed it from it's cellophane covering.

1854-  A menagerie of 2000AD references and a treat for the eyes.

1853-  Just because of the skill demonstrated.

Honourable Mention to Henry Flint's covers, I have been a fan since seeing his artwork in the first prog I ever got.

Dishonourable Mention to Clint Langley's covers, I just can't stand that man's artwork.

Totally with you on Langley. I think I might get used to it but as I only came back to tooth a year ago I haven't read anything he's drawn yet - but from what I've seen... I hate it. Horses for courses, I suppose.

Dave.
My opinion is not to be trusted: I think Last Action Hero is AWESOME. And What Women Want.

Have you ever spoken that expression out loud? It sounds very rude, but seems self evidently true.

I had to speak it in an English accent to get what you meant (I'm norn Irish). Self evidently true? Have you seen animal farm? ;-)

Dave

Ps - I haven't. Just a cheap joke.

I don't get it  :(.  Either I can't elevate my diction to Her Majesty's exacting standards, or my mind is insufficiently dirty.  Surely it can't be the latter, I pride myself on my prurience.

1825 3 points - all of Henry Flint's covers were out of this world this year, keep them coming Henry!

1850 2 points - Ben Oliver is cool

1839 1 point - lee Garbett, lovely design

not to take away from Pete Wells hard work putting this post togather, and this is my opinion olny,  I think in future the covers should be as printed, the original 2000ad logo is a major part of 1830 Gunheadz Boo Cook, other wise this is a cover art of the year, and not really cover of the year.

I don't want to be that guy but I didn't get it either and suddenly did and now that I have I don't think I'll ever say it again without thinking it. It's actually better if you do it in a Yorkshire accent...

Back to the cover voting. Ahem.

Lol. I wouldn't have noticed that if you guys hadn't pointed it out! I think it'd sound better/ worse coming from a Northener's mouth. Somehow my cockney accent doesn't have the same impact!

But as CrazyFox has said, we'd best get back on topic!

#1: prog 1837, Mr C Weston - the background city, here, is as much a character as Dredd
#2: prog 1831, Mr B Wilsher - sounds trite but an 'instant classic' cover
#3: prog 1833, Mr G Fabry - a 'serious' Anderson cover that's just gold

Disappointed that there were no Carlos Ezquerra covers this year - hopefully Tharg has some coming our way in 2014! :D
It's a joke. I was joking.

2nd:1850
3rd:1845

They were all pretty amazing to be fair!

Fungus

1st -- 1853 (Kendall)
2nd -- 1833 (Fabry)
3rd -- 1824  (D'Israeli)

Lots of HMs...
A Bolland, a McMahon, a '77 logo, a wild murky Trevallion Defoe and some Saturday Evening Posts that brought a smile to my good eye. A few duds but that's being very picky - a high standard.

To stop the fawning I will agree with Pictsy's point on Langley. Industrious but all a bit flat for me.

Skullmo

I really enjoy Langley's stuff - although I think his painted work was even better.
It's a joke. I was joking.

It's what restaurant-goers in France say, isn't it?

Or am I thinking of Tesco's?

2: 1843 (2pts)
3: 1832 (1pts)

Fabry's Anderson got edged out of 3rd, but it's still one of my favourites this year.
Just a little rough and tumble, Judge man.
