Well don't sit too close.... Or you'll be in a splatter zone...

Thank goodness Spaceghost didn't say that.

Not on the High Street is a good place to start.

Tut tut... I already have my friends next birthday present planned... And I was going to take him to a show but he has made other arrangements and his Birthday is 3 weeks away

two presents bought and others on my e bay watch list to buy...

Hey, honestly if you've even remembered the anniversary, it's more than most people can say.

This thread is too good.

Call me mad but I've been in this gift situation once too often to take it lightly. I LITERALLY MAKE NOTES. I MAKE BULLET-POINTED NOTES IN A NOTE BOOK.

I am in constant present mode. The best thing is, if you're devious about it and it's far away from any D.o.G. (Days of Gifting) then you can goad some ideas out of the G.T. (Gifting Target) without drawing suspicion and even if they DO get suspicious they'll forget before the next D.o.G......

I mean - my partner wants for nowt beyond obscure fantasy books, mountains of 90s X-Men comics and Star Trek DVD box sets. WHICH ISN'T VERY LADYLIKE IS IT?

THE HORROR.

You are making a fatal mistake there, sonny-jim.  They never forget.  Ever.

Yeah, I make notes too.  Should be said I get a great deal of fun out of buying and latterly making pressies for the better half, so it's not a chore - the stuff she likes is always pretty cool, and pleasingly obscure.

And yet.

Despite having sworn blind that we weren't doing anything for Valentine's this year, putting money into a putative weekend away in May instead, she presented me with a bag of my favourite goodies (decent coffee, Marmite, sherbert), which she insisted were 'groceries' and thus not covered by the terms of our agreement.  Even though I had done a Valentine's meal for the family and got the kids to make her cards, I still feel like I missed a memo...

I swear if there was a search function on this site you could find me making the same bewildered bleatings every year.  When will I learn.

Anyway, thinking about GC's original predicament (not the front-5-rows-at-SeaWorld one), what about booking some kind of activity or short course together?  The missus and I have done a few foraging and beer-making courses, and are thinking about a cooking one, but obviously related to something your partner likes rather than (just) you...  You can usually find one that has a nice hotel setting, or nice nosh thrown in.  They're always memorable.

So all you have to them is your old stuff that you don't want any more? This is a genius relationship CFM.

My normal gift-buying tactic is to say... "Tell us whit ye want for yur burthday or ye'll get fuck all"
Works a treat.

Right step one... do you know your girlfriends mates... and how many friends do you have?

gather them together and ask for their help .... plan a surprise... something different...

No chance. I don't have any and her friends don't like me. Maybe I will just take her shopping and let her get whatever she wants until my credit card is maxed out :D
