The guys at ECBT2000AD are doing their annual interview with Keith Richardson, who this time will be joined by Pye Parr. Keith is Rebellion's merchandise bod and graphic novels editor and Pye is Tharg's chief art designer. This is a great chance to find out what exciting products Tharg has in store for us over the coming year and to find out all those niggling art questions you're dying to know!

This is a general shout out for questions. C'mon guys, let's pump them for info and see if we can a) get Keith to spill the beans on something cool! Are we getting Dredd onsies? Licensed munce pasties? Precous Matson bra's?

And b) how come artistic tour de force Pete Wells done a cover yet?

COMMANDO FORCES

We've had the Fear, Fire and Mortis t-shirts, when is the Death one coming and obviously in the same design?

Pete Wells

Keith: Can you tell the listeners why the Daily Star Dredd has took so long? Was it because he systematically had to check out the Page 3 each day?

Pye: what has Comic Sans ever done to you?

Licensing - How about a Lego or Character Builder or Other Compatable Brand line of 2000AD characters?

I got almost all the 2000AD Heroclix. So more would be nice. I'm guessing they didn't sell so well?

Those two toys are pretty much the only cross-over I'm going to spend cash on.

Unless there was a really well designed non-subscription MMORPG of Dredd, Rogue Trooper, Strontium Dog or others. Sniper Elite: Volgan War would probably get my interest...

Can you ask Pye what products he uses to get such a lustrous shine on his hair, and Keith why it is I keep confusing him with the completely unrelated Keith Tomlinson, with whom I used to work? In Keith's case, could you also ask him to stop doing whatever it is that confuses me, since I already exist in a state of near-permanent befuddlement?

Also: would either of them lend me a fiver?

Cheers

I'm genuinely fascinated as to how the guys consistently put the prog and the megazine together week after week.

In Pye's case:

  • What is the regular routine Mon - Fri for compiling each issue?
  • What are the steps involved in getting the finished art files from arrival by email (I assume) to finished printed product?
  • How many issues of the comic is he juggling at any one stage during the week?
  • Also what is the thinking behind the current double logo on the prog cover each week? He seems to end up covering most of the horizontal "2000AD" logo each week. Is there a rational reason for both titles on the cover?
For Keith:

  • How much, if any, of the old pre-digital original art is kept on site in Oxford? Or is it mainly negative copies?
  • Is there any sense of history or thrill when he's working with old art or negatives or is it just another day at the office? For me I still get a thrill when I open an old prog and can still remember what I was doing at the age I read it.

Cheers lads! Looking forward to the interview as always.

Have actually asked this same question elsewhere on the forum to Mr Molch-R, but wanted to ask Keith, as graphic novels editor, his view - what will happen to the hardcovers' project if not all the Daily Star Dredd strips can be found? And is he confident that they will all eventually turn up?

Cpt Rhodes

A question to Keith please.
Will all the graphic novels that are available in print be getting the digital treatment over the course of time?

I'm talking about DRM free versions for the 2000ad shop, not apple store versions.

Cheers

@Keef:  Are there any plans to re-issue the Books of Invasion in the softback dress of the rest of the Slaine line?  And my sincerest compliments and thanks for the quality and consistency of that line, it's been the perfect example of how to do these things.

- What's the thinking in shifting so much of the trade line to hardback?
- What was the reasoning in ditching so many of the 'historic' quotes in the new Dante trade line? It seems a pity to remove some of that strip's richness.
- Is there any chance the first Indigo Prime trade will get a proper Rebellion reprint at some point, to replace the DC/Rebellion version?

Frank

Pye - Is there a reason why those incredible Simon Davis Sláine centre spreads are presented as single pages in the digital version of the prog?

shaolin_monkey

What do we have to do to get Pye's Tharg THRILL design on a t-shirt?

Pete Wells

Pye - honestly not crawling here but some of his Abaddon covers have been amazing. Why doesn't he do more Prog ones?

Which artists would he like to do a 2000AD cover? Can we have another Frank Miller Dredd?
