Not sure if pervert or cheesecake expert.

After which it seemed almost a shame Constantine got his own series.
Not sure if pervert or cheesecake expert.

Another recommendation for this issue. Not read Hellblazer in years so I was effectively jumping in as well and I enjoyed it.

(Nice art Jock)

Got a couple of Titan reprint books lying around somewhere, black and white versions of the first couple of issues. Must dig those out...

Hellbalzer was the first American comic that I read and bought on a regular basis, outside of Batman.

I gave up on Batman just after I moved here, 5 years ago, and have only just picked up Gotham Central.

I NEVER GAVE UP ON HELLBLAZER.

It's one of the few US comics, that I yearn to read each month. Yes, it's had its ups and downs. But, be in no doubt that right now, it's about to start riding the crest of a wave again.

Carey is perfect for the writing job. (The art IMO can't beat Dillon).

If you're in any doubt, about the quality of this comic, buy a couple of the tpb's (and if you can, try and get hold of Heartlands too).
Cheers

I gave up on it when he went to Australia. It just got pish.

I may have another look now, though, as recommendations round here are always worth listening to.

"The titles the best it's been in years in Mike's hands"

Amen to that!  *gg

The first Azzarello story arc, drawn by the excellent richard corben, is very early Constantine/Swamp Thing, you hardly see John at all, and when you do he's stepping out've the shadows sneering Alright squire? before pulling the rug out from under some poor fool.

although in all fairness this approach got pretty tired after a few issues.http://www.dccomics.com/directcurrents/comics/vertigo/covers/down/DHBHardT.jpg">

I'm really enjoying Mike Carey's run on this. Although there are characters that I didn't know, there is enough subtle back referencing to Gaiman's stint, which was the only other Hellblazer I'd read (up to book 5 of the Titan reprints), not to make make me feel completely new to it again (Nergle's blood, Gary Lester, etc).

Question for those in the know: Was there ever a Hellblazer book 6 in that Titan run, and how *did* he get out of the murder accusation? The last Gaiman one I read had him hooked up with a load of crusties while he was on the run.

I assume that's Delano, not Gaiman :-)

Trout

Delano/McKean issue was no 17, IIRC.

Entitled "Hold Me," and good stuff.

Bugger. You're absolutely right, of course. My only excuse for appaling memory is that I'm at work and I've obviousley gone into idiot-mode.

Do you mean Gaiman/McKean by any chance? That's definitely the one in Gaiman's Midnight Days compilation, and as has been said elsewhere, it's a very affecting story.

jock

yep, "hold me' is superb- and it's issue #27.

Pretty good issue, although fairly confusing as I don't know who the guy is/what he can do when the time keeps jumping about.
Does he see ghosts all the time?
Has he been seperated from his body before?
Who the jollyroger is he?
Other then that, great stuff.

Saw DareDevil tonight as well - hadn't heard of him before they started trailering the film, but good stuff anyway.
Better set your phaser to stun.
