Wow, Canada sounds vile.

It's got it's moments. The scenery is lovely and housing is easy to buy and better quality. More space for everyone. But I have to say in comparison that's about it. General living here is more expensive. There's less to do. It really is like being in a country that's 30 years behind Britain. The people in general are much friendlier and aren't as dour, and the government isn't dedicated to screwing over anyone who earns less than a million a year so there's always that going for it. But overall I'd be back if I could. Grass isn't always greener, I found that out for sure.  Every single day I wish I was back.  Hell, I'd even live in Wales if that got me back. Imagine that.
That's just, like, uh, your opinion, man.

Poutine doesn't make up for it?

Good poutine is indeed a pleasure, but it would be better if Canada knew how to make actual chips instead of being obsessed by fecking French Fries. Every Canadian I've introduced to real home cooked chips are like "urgh they're too potatoey, they're all thick.." And then I have to kill them.

At least you're keeping yourself in a job then.

Not really. There's no challenge in investigating what I myself have been up to.

That is a tough thing to miss Grugz. Hopefully it will pass soon.

It's only been a week, but I miss the coffee in Holland.

I miss having a fecking home.  My landlady sold up over a month ago and since then it's been mates' spare rooms and sofas every night. (Though I am of course eternally grateful to my dear friends for their help. I've known some of them for 35 years.)

I've bought an insanely cheap but very nice mobile home, and am waiting for news of a plot of woodland which I may or may not be able to rent. It'll be my first own,  proper,  non-shared home. Everyone do a Grant Morrison sigil/wank combo spell and make it happen, please.

PS Grugz, I've just read your post and remembered how lucky I actually am. I'm rooting for you

Jaysus, Jayzus, that's a right pain, especially in the current rental market.  'Fair rent, fixity of tenure and free sale': that old Land War went well, so.  And they wonder why Irish people have an unnatural disposition towards home ownership.  Much as I chafe against the burden of an ever-increasing mortgage that's perpetually in arrears, at least they have to take me to court to get me out.

Good luck with your plans for Walden Mk 2!

Grugz

Thanks TB, if things work out like I hope they will my eviction may well be a blessing in disguise - I always wanted to live on my own in a woods.  I say woods, but my memory may be over-romanticising - it's a few trees near to but separate from a small woods; and is close to the road (a quiet country road all the same).

And Grugz, hopefully your own recovery will only take weeks!
