I had such a great day at the 40th Anniversary. The atmosphere was great and everyone I met there was extremely friendly and easy to talk too.

I managed to get my Buttonman collection all signed by both John Wagner and Arthur Ranson (and Frazer Irving of course who even though he was packing up for his lunch break took the time to chat with me about his work on Buttonman and even a random chat about Saga from Image Comics!)

I also got Mazeworld signed by Alan Grant and Arthur Ranson too, and I even got an Adam Cadman Sketch from Arthur Ranson. As Mazeworld was the story that really got me into 2000AD I can’t say how happy I was to meet both the creators and actually own a piece of the Artists work.

I attended the Writing for 2000ad Panel which was really interesting, and the Look of 2000Ad Panel which again was fascinating, it was all really revealing of how much the creators love and are dedicated to 2000AD in the same way as us lowly fans!

Just a totally great day all round, I was sad to leave but Chiltern Trains wait for no man, or droid.

On another note did anyone get the advance bundle ticket? Personally I thought it was entirely worth the price. However, I was a bit perplexed that I got a “Limited Edition 252 out of 500” card in the bag but I couldn’t identify what exactly in there was a limited edition Item since it all seemed to be on sale at the Con?

Hopefully the success of this con will drive the 2000AD droids to do more similar events. Whether it’s 40 years or 5, I literally cannot wait to get my ticket!

Also in agreement with some other users, yes, some of those panels were bloody freezing!

That would have been the 2000AD's Greatest collection since my card was inside that. Nothing about the actual volume that's 'limited edition' apart from the card as far as I can see.

Missing Arthur Ranson was probably my only regret of the day since I'd bought my Shamballa paperback with me to get signed but due to the key used on the Mega-way map (artists listed alphabetically rather than numerically by table) meant I kind of lost him in the crush. (I guess if I'd been really determined I'd have managed it but the stars didn't align for my random-just-walking-around-catching-who-I-could meanderings. :))

If anyone's interested I've uploaded the photos I took at the Festival (and the things I bought/got signed) to my Facebook page here.

I think you guys got the Souvenir Sketchbook with the logo for the 40 years on the cover.
Certainly I didn't see it for sale.
The rest was for sale but they did say that in advance.
Didn't see the promised choice of free plastic figures but someone explained later that was a promotional mix-up and there was only the chance of winning one.

Fantastic weekend. Lots of new and old faces and unlike some, I caught several panels and even the live drawing of D'Israeli and Henry Flint. Why weren't these packed-out??!

The glacial queues meant I side-stepped those - life's too short. Seeing prog 1's with signatures was nice, you know you're in the right place :-)

Not really a buying/signing event for me, but did get some art.

It did turn chilly later in the day - Thrill-Power in its purest form I guess.

Oh, and I hope no-one encounters this guy again too soon:

It was an absolutely fantastic event and it will probably take several days to recover from. Meeting everyone was probably the biggest highlight, several familiar faces and plenty of new ones. There were so many stories that I will probably never be able to remember. I was lucky enough to be one of the last people left in to the Strontium Dog film was incredible and is even better then Minty.

Other Highlights included, chatting to a few of the Scottish lads, only to have King Carlos walk past and everyone stopped, mid sentence and just stair in awe at the man for several seconds and having a quick chat with Simon Fraser only to have Jock, Dom Reardon and Al Ewing, join in on the conversation.

The only down side was probably some of the worst staff i have ever seen behind a bar, seeing them trying to ore a pint of Guinness caused me physical pain.

Was great to meet you Gavin, I'm glad you enjoyed the film - still working on it to buff it up.

Cheers

Steve- Having Harvey intro the film was an inspired idea. He was fantastic.

Seconded.
Especially as I had travelled from Milton Keynes.
Really good performance and well-written.

Unfortunately not at a panel - we found her walking through the main corridor, but managed to grab a photo

Wonderful :) Much much deserved and lovely that she came along.

Didn't see the promised choice of free plastic figures but someone explained later that was a promotional mix-up and there was only the chance of winning one.

Yeah, I don't know how many times they had to say it but I heard someone asking about it around 4pm so probably an awful lot, I'd just presumed they would have all gone in the first few minutes so didn't even try. Turns out each of those figures actually takes 6 hours to make. But they are amazing.
Buy the 3d printer for around €3000 and you too could make your own!

Fantastic weekend. Lots of new and old faces and unlike some, I caught several panels and even the live drawing of D'Israeli and Henry Flint. Why weren't these packed-out??!

I managed to see some of the end of Jock's one but just too many clashes for everyone I guess, especially with the mammoth queues. I only got to one of the nerve centre signings and they were constantly on all day. Although of course you got to see other artists at work right in front of you on the tables so that might be part of it as well.

That would have been the 2000AD's Greatest collection since my card was inside that. Nothing about the actual volume that's 'limited edition' apart from the card as far as I can see.

Just need to stick it into the book and then it has a place in my collection as a limited edition ;) It's the memory of where you were when you got it that makes it special, in the droids own hands it came from!

Other Highlights included, chatting to a few of the Scottish lads, only to have King Carlos walk past and everyone stopped, mid sentence and just stair in awe at the man for several seconds...

There was a lot of that going on :) I wanted to see the SD Film and Future Shock but then I wouldn't have been in the bar, and been talking to a few nice people including Tom and the great Kelly Kanayama and also see John Wagner going flying over the sofa in reception when he was looking at his phone.

What a fantastic day! We may not see the like of it again...

So many highlights.  Everyone who went seemed to be in a welcoming, friendly and enthusiastic mood creators and fans alike.

Those that stand out particularly are chatting to Lee Carter (and buying a superb sketch off him), the bloke dressed up as Satan from the Anderson story! That was nuts!!, speaking to Mick McMahon and Cam Kennedy, listening to Cam on the panel saying he drew so that he'd have money to fish, see his friends and 'wander about' basically (new philosophy for life), interrupting my wife when she was randomly chatting to Matt Smith (as I was looking through Mike Dowling's artwork) and saying "that's Tharg you know!", chatting to Mike and getting some of his art, seeing the superb SD film and meeting a couple of people I knew already, and the pleasure of meeting a few I didn't.

A day I'll remember...until I can't remember anything else....

Now, where on earth am I going to put all those prints!!

Thanks, it was Steve S's idea and we bashed something out between us. Guy did a great job.

We were going round the con with Lauren as Durham Red, and Guy properly in character, bumped into Conor Boyle and the growing dread on Conor's face - "Oh god, he's in character" he said...

I really felt for the people organising the 3D printing thing - I know how long they take (for any volume you'd make a mold and have resin copies), so it didn't make an awful lot of sense the way it was worded.

I'd just guessed (incorrectly) they were really trying to get people to buy the printers and thought it worthwhile.

Well that was a huge amount of fun and huge props to the Droids for a very well organized and run convention. It was great to meet a lot of you and sorry to the many more I didn't catch up with / meet. I got to meet personal heroes Boo and Si Fraser and to chat with Mr Carroll who is thoroughly charming. Pretty much all the creators were to be honest, willing to chat and put up with fan-boying with grace and humility :D Having so many Droids in one place was quite dizzying and it only took queuing three times to get Carlos' signature. Lets do it again (with ticketed time-slots for Carlos and Dave Gibbons)

I think it took 3 hours for me, Pete and Rob to keep saying goodbye to everyone on the Sunday morning. It was like some comedy sketch!

The most deserved Krill Tro Thargo EVER. Thanks Denise!
