... Round 2 is on its way... but no, no its not. We're taking a pause and do a few different things (hopefully) over December and then Round 2 (and the rest of the Tourneys) will pop up early in the New Year.

Will post a couple of bits here to round up Round 1, BUT first things I wanted to say was a massive thank you to everyone who's chipped in. This has been the most popular tourney to date, both in terms of number of votes, but also the commentry and insight into some very tough decisions has been fantastic. Fingers crossed the breaks doesn't dampen the enthusiasm... or some of the tough decisions that are on the horizon.

We'll look at that a little bit when I post here next...

Before you get stuck into yet more threadwork, I have to note my appreciation for this whole project. It's been both fun and surprisingly thought-provoking. I avoided voting at the very start because I feared it could become a(nother) time sink, and boy was I right! But in the best possible way. Thanks, Colin!

SmallBlueThing(Reborn)

Yep, this has been hugely fun and- somehow more importantly- it's made me think a lot more about the prog instead of just consuming it willy-nilly. Thanks very much Colin.

Votes like candy ... I know I should stop, but they taste so good!

Thanks, Colin.

Thanks, Colin.

Yeah, keep up the good work! The reasoning out of selections are fascinating.

Maybe this is too good for us? Do we need to consider an Uncle Ump style solution to end Colin's reign of terror/joy?

I'll add my thanks to that.  Even if the pubs were still open, I wouldn't get to chat about every 2000ad artist there's been.  More likely I'd enjoy the conversation for a while, then look at this thread on my phone as the rest of them inevitably turn the conversation to golf and football.

Many thanks from me too. Great work! Some agonising choices though... :)

I'd like to add my thanks to Colin also, in this year of so much life-changing stuff, I've looked forward to voting and commenting on the joys that we have and continue to enjoy from the House of Tharg. A Krill Tro Thargo to Mr YNWA.

Yes, thanks for running the comps Colin. I popped by the forum after several months of delinquency and they pulled me back in. Cheers

Getting more folks playing here was my solo aim so this warms the cockles ... anyway enough of this niceness its not what we're here for. We're hear to lament the one's who didn't make it to Rouind 2. To that end here's the list of Art Droid in the last 16 of the 'Classic' side. No praise for me now huh, each vote in January will have two of these titans in it!

Arthur Ranson
Kev O'Neill
Brian Bolland
Simon Harrison
Ron Smith
Bryan Talbot
Massimo Bellardinelli
Simon Bisley
Brett Ewins
Dave Gibbons
Carlos Ezquerra
Cam Kennedy
Jesus Redondo
Mike McMahon
Steve Dillon

So who do you miss. Its hard cos when I was thinking about it I realised anyone missed had to replace one of these. And who could you drop off this list? Well for me there were only three (I won't name them) and so I really wish (getting over jim Baikie from qualifying)

Edmund Bagwell
Colin Wilson
Frazer Irving

Had made it to this Round. 3 artists who for me match any in the Progs history. Who do you most wish had got through?

I am also sad about Jim Baikie. But you should have manipulated the opponents :)

All of the above, they all have lovely bottoms, but I'm most sad about Bagwell, mostly because we had to include him in the Classic group at all.

In a better world he would by now have had another decade of work to establish himself as one of, if not the best of the 21st century droids. With other sad absences, Hicklenton in particular, I think we got enough of their art to at least appreciate their specific genius and where it might have gone, but with Bagwell I always feel we only got a first delicious nibble of what he was capable of.

Yeah the thing with Bagwell he was capable of anything. Just compare Cradlegrave and Indigo Prime. He made both strips so utterly him and so utterly his. When you think about the contrast between the two I just find that staggering. I'm still to re-read his Ten-seconders (coming up soon in self-absorbed lands) and I think that will somehow bridge the two. We'll see.

I know Bolland is iconic, but for me Bagwell was better - there said it!
