Like King Cobra do ya... yeah, yeah... love the art huh... well that's just fine and dandy. Oh what's that you think Kitty Pryde Agent of SHIELD is like the best everrrrr huh. You think that's cool... fine, fine. I mean I hear ya BUT WE DON'T CARE - it's Tharg we're talking about here boy THARG anything else is going to get you into trouble man. BIG trouble. Now get back to Barney and vote before I take you issues of Star Trek and Bunty and stick them somewhere that will make your eyes water more than this decision...

Alas we have to pick our favourite and to do so just pop the name of the art droid you'd most like to go through to the Quarter Finals, but please add anything else you'd like to say as well.

Ron Smith - more info

OR

Jesus Redondo - more info

This one will close and be counted on the morning of Sunday 17th January

When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Old age is the Lord's way of telling us to step aside for something new. Death's in case we didn't take the hint.

A tricky one but on balance I'll have to go for the Ronster - just too much amazing art to ignore; UnAmerican Grafitti, the Hotdog Run and Shanty Town being some personal favourites - there are just so many great Dredd stories under his belt though.  Redondo did some incredible work for the Prog and his classic Time Twisters alone made this a very difficult choice....  Bah!

Magnetica

Ron Smith. And it's not even close. I always loved Ron's Dredd - it's one of the most iconic depictions of Dredd and especially the citizens of Mega City One.

Weird one this because I think I prefer redondo's linework and overall style but Ron wins for the sheer volume of iconic villains and citizens he conjured as well as his talent for splash page detail and world-building. The page-timer anecdote will always floor me because there's so much on each page.
If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.

Could Ron Smith have drawn Wolfie Smith? Could he?

I'm voting Jesus Redondo, in large part for his incredible melting Amtrak.

This is one of the great 2000ad stories. Its incredible - that and he was so good he went straight to ink pretty much.

Talking about Wolfie Smith has this ever been collected ? This is one of those thrills which heard off but I haven't read it at all. I did not even know that Redondo was the art droid on it

Barney has it not having been. Which is curious. I know its frowned upon but i quite like it and particularly the last story. I've never read the stuff from Tornado though. Redondo did the art for only that last one. Vanyo and Ian Gibson doing the others.

The Mind of Wolfie Smith

ron smith has been my favourite, most definitive dredd artists since my infant days (when, let's face it, only the pictures mattered).

but redondo is a crazed deity of ever emotional sequential art draughtsmanship. and he gets my vote.

colin, this is a cruel and addictive enterprise ...

Ron Smith - a very underrated artist who never seems to get the credit he deserves for doing so much of the heavy lifting on Dredd during the first 10 years.
Post prog 500, the way he was shifted onto the poorer strips was a criminal waste of his talents.

His art on stories like Black Plague, Blood of Satanus and Graveyard Shift was phenomenal.
Smith was also one of the best artists at managing the shift from the 'straight' action to the 'comedic' elements of Dredd - sometimes within the same page.
And there also seemed to be nothing he couldn't draw. His work on the Daily Star Dredds was effortless in squeezing a story onto a single page.
