Gosh, wasn't expecting this one to be so close! Both having given so much to Dredd but beyond that McMahon by a country mile! Are people forgetting his work on Ro-Busters and ABC Warriors? The fact he designed and set up the VCs?

Mick McMahon for me.

Yes all good points. But it's still Ron for me. After Bolland he is the artist I miss most on Dredd. But I will agree McMahon has a more impressive portfolio beyond Dredd.

Sky Chariots has some of the best comic artwork I've ever seen, and we owe most of Dredd's modern look to Mick McMahon.

But Ron was more a part of my formative prog years, and wins by a whisker for me.

When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Smith too often remains an unsung hero regarding his work on Dredd, fashioning a world. But this is about favourite artists vs achievements, and so for me it has to be McMahon.

Mick McMahon.

A terribly difficult choice. But based on early Mick art, and the fact that images his Cursed Earth work often pop into my head, going with Mick.

Ron's Otto Sump is one of my favorites. I once printed out a prog cover featuring Otto (It's Tasty!) and pinned it to my sweater for an 'Ugly Christmas Sweater' contest at work.

Mick McMahon, for...

Mad George, Colossus of Mars:

For telling us:

For the boots:

For the apes:

And for this utter madness:
An angry nineties throwback who needs to get a room.

Some big boots to fill:

Oh Christ, will you look at that.  McMahon has always been a master of the Citiblock, with all those curves, conservatories and tropical plants, but that just takes it to a new level. Beginning to wonder why I voted the other way now - I'll stick for the time being, though, and have a good think about what I've done.

By the way, whose is the portrait just at Dredd's foot?  Just below the guy giving the finger, which is a great touch too.
