Welcome to Round 2, week 1 . This is where things get really interesting. All the big hitters are in the draw and let me tell you there are some ties coming up that will get the hearts racing and the camera’s out for live coverage. They will cover acres of print on the back pages. There are also ties that will barely get mentioned on their local radio news summary. Week 1 however does feel a little like a warm up however. It hasn’t got any of the high profile draws I hoped it might to kick us off, but it does start to hint at what's to come…

Dan Abnett and Henry Flint - what could go wrong… well … We’ve had loads of great spin-offs from NuEarth Rogue so what could go wrong… :

Sancho Panzer - more info

Vs

Venus Bluegenes - more info

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Sunday 23rd January  and the winner gets a place in Round 3 (of 9!!!).

What on Earth is ALL of this?

For those that need ‘um and can be bothered to follow ‘um there’s some simple rules

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN!

Venus Bluegenes
When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Old age is the Lord’s way of telling us to step aside for something new. Death’s in case we didn’t take the hint.

Love the spelling in the title, makes me wonder whether Colin has been listening to Neil Diamond while compiling all this  :)

I seem to remember Venus had a pretty good solo debut in the hands of Morrison and Simpson in a sci-fi special way back, so Venus Bluegenes.

Like, Venus Bluegenes as a character is way more fun than the tank team - but the actual stories that ran under the banner 'Venus Bluegenes'? Some good puns, but they're basically like mid-level Fr1day stories in quality. Even if we include Rogue TrooperS, which was about Fr1day and Venus together, I'm still voting

Sancho Panzer

-A thrill that never quite got off the ground but if Abnett/Flint tried it now I can imagine it running and running. Flint draws tank mayhem real good.

    • Futureshock'd: At least the pictures are nice.
Panzer.

If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.

The most recent Venus outing (prog 2206R) didn't lift her up much beyond the supporting act she was designed to be. Your other solo offerings from Venus are:

The Pleasures of the Flesh ('88 Sci-Fi Special)
Bitchin' ('95 Winter Special)
Venus on the Frag Shell (976-979)
Stealth (980-982)
Genesis ('96 RT Action Special)

On the other hand, the other puntastic offering here, Nacho Panzer, backed itself into a corner and failed to drum up much of a narrative beyond the high concept on offer. It was all a bit Regened.

I suggest these two properties get combined into Bluegenes 'n' Panzer and get their own team-up story in an upcoming special.

My first abstain - I don't care which of these goes through.

Last chance to vote in the last vote of the first week of Round 2. Before we get to the second week, which will turn up the heat! I'll count this one up in the morning.

Two big old punning titles with not much else to recommend them.

Sancho Panzer.

VOTING CLOSED

A little more love to both sides on this one. Ultimately though a pretty straightforward result as

Sancho Panzer

keeps on track for Round 3.
