Trump's doctors have confirmed that the bullet missed his brain by just three feet.

Not sure if you've seen the cover for this week's Private Eye but I think they pretty much nailed the impact of this week's event. Hat to say it but we're likely to see the Criminal In Chief reinstalled. Seriously thinking of stocking up on canned goods!

Quote"On the whole, there does seem to be some evidence of movement toward Trump in the post-incident numbers," said Kevin Wagner, Ph.D., co-director of FAU's PolCom Lab and professor of political science. "I would still be cautious about making any long-term predictions for now. Those numbers likely reflect some response bias and reflect a relatively smaller sample that is likely much more volatile."

Shooting or not, it's still a tight race. There's a lot of fatalism, I think, driving people to assume that the Dems have already lost. Personally, I wouldn't mind if the presidency was held by a permanently napping Biden or, say, a lettuce - just not the fascist Trump. I'm knocking on wood that there's enough folk in the swing states that recognize there's a problem with electing someone who plans to dismantle their right to elect people.

I imagine a lot of people will in the event of Trump being elected start screaming about how they didn't expect the leopard to eat their face. While Trump acts all shocked at having created worldwide economic meltdown by urging China to invade Taiwan and enabling Putin to take Ukraine, which would potentially embolden him to start fucking around elsewhere in Europe.

I've been having this argument with UK people in the last couple of days... "Why are Labour announcing a £3bn package of support for Ukraine? We have our own problems!"

Yeah, and if Putin takes Ukraine, he's going after the Baltics and, at the very least, a chunk of Poland next... and that puts the EU in an actual hot war with Russia. Apparently, quite a lot of people are unable to understand that this scenario would also be bad for the UK. It very much is our problem.

I think there were similar arguments before WW2 as well, "It's a continental problem", "It'll all go away", "Hitler will stop after the Sudetenland" etc
When the truth offends, we lie and lie until we can no longer remember it is even there, but it is still there. Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later, that debt is paid. That is how an RBMK reactor core explodes. Lies. - Valery Legasov

Less than 24 hours before the assassination attempt on Trump, Israel tried to assassinate Hamas commander Mohammed Deif by attacking al-Mawasi - which was in a designated humanitarian safe zone. At least 90 Palestinians were killed and 300 wounded. It does not appear at this time that Deif, the target, was killed in the attack.

It seems that only some assassination attempts are noteworthy.

As someone mentioned on Twitter, these are the types of people who wouldn't wear a square of material on their faces a couple of years ago when it meant protecting other people around them from illness*.

*which is something Chinese and Japanese people have done for decades to protect other people from colds and flus, and something I can't help feeling we should do more often these days too.
