Being a projectionist has it perks - this one being alone in a 500 seat auditorium watching X Men 2 and being PAID for it.
So the spoiler free verdict is: miles better than the first one, darker in the way Empire was compared to Star Wars. Pretty violent with an awful lot of deaths. Nifty new Blackbird plane. Alan Cumming was a lot better than i thought he'd be, much better role for Storm, Famke Jannsen doesn't look as haggard as she has just lately, Ian McKellan is brilliant the first time you meet him.
Downside is that it flags a bit towards the end and starts to lose steam.
Highly recommended though.
Hard-locked to the print is the trailer for LOEG which does look great with a brillant, accurate Mr Hyde - down to the red skin and tiny head, a creepy Invisible Man and a bit more vampiric than in the comics Mina Harker.
BAD NEWS though is that its obvious that this is a Sean Connery film and comes across as "an old Indiana Jones with some odd accomplices" film

Crikey, we agree!!
Not being an X-Fan at all....
So what does Jean Grey turn into?

rorshak

That LOEG trailer isn't locked to the print, Odeon cinemas in the midlands for instance have varying trailers not always the same from screen to screen!

Jean Grey is becoming Phoenix.
In the comics Phoenix was an alien entity, in the films it looks like (with relation to Magnetos machine) she is going to become an 'Eternal', the step above mutant equal to the mutant step above human- ala Apocalypse who may well turn up as a bad guy in a future movie.
Personaly I hope to see Sinister and Juggernaught!

eggonlegs

there are some cracking mutant tales that have been told but will we see them in film land????

Mangamax

Er, the LOEG trailer does arrive at cinema's attached to the print of X Men 2 but whether it chooses to remove it is down to that site's projectionist/manager.
For the Jean Grey - Phoenix thing, a big clue is the very last shot passing over the lake. Look carefully and her Phoenix symbol is a reflection on the water.

judda fett

I saw it today and noticed the Phoenix symbol. Thats a Marvel 'no prize'...

Last of the V8's

Yes I saw the reflection under the water, that is why I ask.

Richmond Clements

I saw the symbol on the water, and was waiting for her to burst up through the surface or something, but what a cool ending!
Brilliant movie, better than the first one.
And Nightcrawler was fantastic, too.

LOEG trailer was on, looks like good fun, but you never can tell...
Also we had a trailer for Hulk, which looks quite mental, with Hulk doing his big jump thing in the desert and what have you.

Tu-plang

Yes that kicks the arse off x1 which was a bit of a dissapointment.  I mean, statue of liberty?

The LOXG (as they seem to like calling it) tralier looks interesting to say the least.  Was it someone here who said that they seem to be marketing it as X-Men 100 years ago?  Not sure if thats a good thing or not.

Still, it's got people talking quite a bit.  Bet Alan Moore's making a packet.

Mangamax

The Hulk face looks great and he jumps like he should but that body. It's just too rounded.
And don't get me started on the Dr Manhatten rip-off origin

'And don't get me started on the Dr Manhatten rip-off origin'

Mmmm, that hadn't occoured to me, but you're right.
I think the problem with radiarion is that nowdays, everybody knows that radiarion will kill you, rather thatn give you superpowers. Which is a shame.

Richmond Clements

I seem to have typed the same typo twice... of course it should be radiation, not radiarion, though that is a cool word I just invented.

Adrian Bamforth

You can see the trailer here (though it hasn't worked for me yet), there's also pics though unfortunately we have to wait to get a glimpse of the Nautilus.

longmanshort

wow oh wow oh wow oh wow.

Loved it. Wanted to see it again straight away. Alan Cumming is fantastic, as is Brian Cox. Much 'meatier' film because Singer didn't have to spend as much time setting the characters up. Loved the little hints of the comic strip. Jason is pretty obviously Legion from pre-Age of Apocolypse. The TV debate in the bar had Dr Hank McCoy in it! Plus the whole Phoenix thing. Singer really has woven the comics into the films with great success. Read a review that said 'Oh, well not much scope for X-Men Three then' WHAT?!?!?!? Can't wait for the tri-quel!

And Anna Paquin IS growing up isn't she! :p~
