who said that they seem to be marketing it as X-Men 100 years ago?

Ah, but the X-Men pretty much defined ensemble cast superhero action as we know it today, so it's pretty much an inevitable conclusion.

To force you to buy them, they'd run story arcs and put each part in a different comic or run them side by side so you only knew what was REALLY going on if you got them all.

Yeah, thats what killed off my interest in the X-Titles in the bad old days. However recently I've been reading X-Men and X-Statix quite happily without having to read any damn stupid crossovers.
