2000AD Online

Okay, convince me I should start reading 2000 AD again.

I've HATED 2000AD and all the writers, editors and readers for 10 YEARS!  (sorry, nothing personal)  They took something I liked, made it into something I didn't, then p*ssed on it and some other stuf, I've read about it specialist publications.

But genuinely it is on the way to being rehabilitated.  Old series are being brought back, not as abominations, but better than they ever were.  Strontium Dog is great now, he's not even dead (yet).

I spent a couple of years recebtly buying it for Nemesis and ABC warriors, reading Dredd in between (yes, Matt in whsmith's).  Okay so there are a few new (for me) series, I just don't get.  Why do people find Sinister Dexter and Nikolai Dante fun, beats me.

But they are only one or two strips, there are new strips coming along, JohnWagner is writing some fantastic Dredd and while Morrison and Rennie aren't Wagner (and who is, not even Mrs Wagner) they do a pretty good job of Dredd.

You have a new Dredd series planned, Rogue trooper and Stront Dog are coming back, there is a serious new death story.

Basically it doesn't look embarressing, it isn't up to late 80's standards yet but it beats a lot of the nineties stuff to death with a loofer.

A serious effort really seems to be being made with ths comic, and I for one am in.  If it goes again then i'll probably go for good (yes, I hear you all cry), but seriously I suggest giving it another go. Honestly.

To be honest, the most embarrassing thing about 2000 AD when I was still reading it on a regualr basis was the fact my mother enjoyed reading it also. Which kinda made me feel proud in a bizarre kind of way. I started losing interest when Michael Flashman got more exposure than he should have, and I stopped buying the comic not long after Garth Ennis took over from John Wagner. Not that he necessarially did a bad job, but. . .

Anyway, I occasionally dip in every now and then, and recently 2000 AD does seem to have the sense of fun I felt it was lacking, as mentioned on a previous thread. If this continues, i might even find myself buying the rag on a regliar basis!

Here's hoping.

Yeah I guess I left when you did then.  I have only started dipping in these last few years and decided to 'go steady' from prog 2002.  I bet there are a few people like us about.

I'm not going to get into the whole Ennis thing, he has more fans than I do, so good luck to him.  I guess.  Funnily enougb at the same time I stopped liking Hellblazer and Chopper.  Weird eh?

Oh well, I'm off to bed.  G'night.

Who the hell's Michael Flashman?  Do you mean Michael Fleicher, who wrote some well dodgy stuff during the comic's worst period?

The very same. I was trying to live up to me name, you understand. Y'know, 'Flashman' and 'exposure'. Clever, huh? Or maybe I was just too drunk to spell Fleischer
