EXT. WATCHING BAY FIVE - DAY
Rico to control, I'll take it!

The lawmaster burns down the watching bay slip road onto the main skedway.

Rico
(into bike computer)
Bike, nearest route to Gleason? Download details onto biker visor. Include any spy in sky public surveillance unit cameras in area.

Bike Computer
Affirmative. Downloading.

On visor, showing map route.

EXT. SINNERS SALVATION SKEDWAY - DAY

Rico zooms through the traffic.  

Rico:
Traffic ahead. Turbo boost!

Lawmaster leaps through the air over over a roadster.

On Rico's bike computer display, on location of spy in sky camera in front of bank.

Rico:
Computer. Disable spy cam. Override sequence Delta 4 6. Authorization Dredd, J. Use my retina scan for confirmation.

Computer scans Dredd's visor and his eye.

Computer:
Scanning. Disabling camera now. Stand by.

Rico approaches the bank.

INT. CONTROL ROOM - DAY

Sector judge is looking at screen from sky cam's point of view. Suddeenly the screen goes fuzzy with white noise and cuts off.

Sector judge:
What the...

EXT. SINNERS SALVATION SKEDWAY -DAY

Rico racing along:

Bike computer:
Camera disabled.

EXT. BANK - DAY
Four judge impersonators leaving bank with their stolen credits. Jimp#1 hears the siren of Rico's bike approaching.

Jimp#1
The law!

Jimp#2
You forget, so are we!

They draw their weapons. They fire at Rico.

Rico:
Bike cannon!

Rico opens up with the cannons. Badamm Badamm!
Two jimps (#3 and #4) go down in a hail of gunfire.

Jimp#1
Impersonating the law is a crime creep!

Rico:
You don't say!

Rico pulls the bike up and wheelies along the road as the underside of the bike is hit. Rico races along on his rear wheel. He lands the bike upright on Jimp#1, crushing him to death.
Jimp#2 fires at Rico but Rico is just too damn quick. Fires his lawgiver at the perp blowing off his gun arm.

Jimp#2
Arrgghh!

Perp falls to the ground.

Rico gets off bike. Goes up to the wounded perp.

Rico:
Impersonating a judge, armed robbery with violence... and of course damage to judicial property.

Jimp#2
Huh?

Rico:
My bike meathead. Lets call it life. Yours.

Rico raises his gun to perp's head.

Jimp#2
I surrender grud damn it!

Rico:
What was that you said?

Rico shoots him in the head. Perp falls back dead.
Rico looks around. Silence. Looks up at sky in the sky cam above him. On Rico's mouth, like Dredd's but more malevolent.

Rico walks casually back to his bike. Speaks into helmet mike:

Rico:
Rico to control. Four for the meat wagon on Gleason. Multiple casulties in Multibank. Med assist required.

Control:
On it's way.

Rico revs the bike's engines hard.

Control:
Rico, PSU camera in your area went down. Anything unusual to report?

Rico: Nothing unusual control.

As Rico disappears down the skedway:

Rico:
Nothing at all.

The End.

Doesn't bloody matter which way ye write it son, It's well done and all, ah'll give ye that, but either way, it's nowt but bloody character bloody assassination.  I'm telling ye.

Leave the boy alone.  He's not Dredd, not half the man Dredd is, but he's okay.  Just as Dredd is never going to be Fargo or Kraken the original Rico or any one of the numerous Dredd clones out there.  (I have one I keep next to the frozen sprouts, just in case.)

They share the same DNA, they share a few of the same common traits and they've all been made by their experiences.  It doesn't seem fair to pick on Rico.  I think the whole point is that he's supposed to be hard to like.  he has the soul (if not the experience, wisdom and judgement) of a 50 year old Dredd in a twenty year old body.  It's not normal, I agree, but I can't hate him for it.

Just think Kraken had the Judda, they shaped him, they were his family.  Dredd and Rico had each other, for a while, and were influenced by the memory of the founder of justice.  What has Rico had?  Not even that.  The only family he has is a man 30 odd years older than him and as giving as a piece of flint.  Rico has become Dredd 30 years too soon.

I'll be honest I think the whole Rico story is great.  I was always dissapointed by Kraken (but then weren't we all in the end) but it seems to have set up the Rico story really well and along the way made tied the whole Dredd lineage in nicely.

I thought the fact that he really screwed up in the sector house was really good.  he failed because he tried to be the living image of Judge Dredd and Judge Dredd isn't even that.  I like Rico because he makes mistakes and where as Dredd got harsher and a little wiser as he gets older, I like to think that Rico will mellow out a little.

I don't think any decisions about Dredd's future will be made soon (it would be fun if I was wrong) but I think it's all great at the moment, can't wait for Leaving Rowdy.  (I think I've kept this 'Speculation Lite')

So if you don't leave him alone Scojo, next time I defrost the freezer (okay, guess that makes you safe) I'll send my Dredd clone to get you.

I have to say I'd be VERY surprised if he goes bad.  Not as surprised if he gets involved in an extra judicial affair funny enough, call it a hunch (people can be so cruel).  Perhaps I'm just getting broody for baby Dredds and I have two theories for this.  A storyline with a natural son of Dredd would be great!

Hell baby no way, so Rico has to show bad traits sooner or latter. This is pure conjecture on my part of course but as Trough said, I may really be John Wagner in the guise of an egotisitcal arrogant excuse for a wannabe writer, namely scojo.

Maybe I'm being silly here but I thought tthis was the original Rico that Scojo was writing about. Was I wrong?
Mrwhit does however raise a good point: what ever happened to Dredd's niece? Surely a story in there somewhere I should think.

John Wagner has said he regrets the Vienna story line, citing 'Dredd's impossible niece' as being the reason for this. 'The Mega-History' also makes the same mistake, asking how Rico could possibly father a daughter while serving his twenty years on Titan.

But if one reads 'Vienna', she's obviously only a few years old at most. It's therefore not inconceivable she was herself conceived at some point during Rico's return to Mega-City One prior to his showdown with Joe.

As to what happened to her, well I could say but that would spoil the surprise.

Not that I want any of you thinking I'm currently in the process of writing a proposal featuring Ms. Dredd.
