Again I know this is a recurring question BUT can anyone recommend any good comic shops in London for old progs.

I'm off down next week.

I've got a wad of money burning in my pocket and its either going on comics or whores, booze & drugs.

(Only joking Beth if some how you ever managed to read this message)

Anyway isn't there a comic fair on Sunday?

All details would be very gratefully received.

Also shops which sell original art. Theres one opposite the British Museum IIRC.

Best I found was in Camden, Mega-City Comics. Umm, on a side street off the 'main' Camden markety sort of street. I got a few old progs there.

Aside from that, I'll let the real Landaners elaborate.

Oooooooh, they've got a website:

NEGOTIATION'S OVER!

One opposite the British Museum? Sounds interesting wheres that then?

The one oposite the British Museum is down Great Russel street, and is literally oposite the entrance on that side. It's pretty good, especially for graphic novels.
I like Comics Showcase on the Charing Cross road. Just down from Leicester Sq tube, it's got some original art downstairs. I'm sure I saw some tooth art, and there was certainly some Marshal Law.

there's a reet good comic doings at the Royal National Hotel called the 'National Collectors Marketplace' on Sunday 5th October.

Comics Showcase do indeed have a downstairs where there's some bits of original art. But for about the last 10 times i've been there the staircase is covered by a bloody great standee and no amount of pleading will get the bastards to let you down there.
The art by the way is pretty bottom of the barrel stuff.

Yeah, I've seen the original art in Comics Showcase, some good stuff but most of it is, as you say, 'bottom of the barrel stuff' (ie John McRea (sp?) stuff, how this man ever got any work in comics is beyond me, I suspect a Garth Ennis connection has something to do with it.)

Ah but how much is this bottom of the barrell stuff?

GOSH! GOSH! GOSH! GOSH! GOSH! GOSH! GOSH! GOSH!

That's the one opposite the museum, my all time favourite shop.

Does anyone know if Jonathon Ross' shop in Soho is still open?  I'd be surprised as it was in a poor location.

WoD

There used to be 4(ish) shops in about 200M walk of each other in this area, FP, Gosh!, one down towards Covent Gardens and then a one upstairs in one of the major record stores in Oxford Street.  It's been a long time since I visited though.

Mangamax

Nope, Ross' shop has long since gone the way of the dodo as too the comic shop above HMV. There's a pretty good one at the top of Shaftsbury Avenue, where it joins with New Oxford Street. Just turn right out of FP and its about 5 mins along.

What are Gosh like now for 2000ad back issues?

This used to be my fave too when I lived in London Village but they didn't used to have many back issues.

Never been a fan of Gosh - were are the smelly old comics, the unsorted boxes of forgotten treasure?  Its all a bit too "Page 45" for me - a comic shops not a comic shop unless you have some doubt about leaving it alive....

Go to Soho.  Probably some comic shops, and if not at least you're in the right place for the other parts of your shopping list.

Mega City Comics...

Ahhhh... sweet nostalgia.
