I've noticed over the passed few months that new boarders arrive and they start a thread by saying, "Now I know you've probably discussed this before but...."

Well I'm not a new boarder and I know that this has been discussed before but it's bothering me.

Prog 1208. Most people I meet at conventions seem to think that it's scarce because a lot of these progs were flood damaged but recently I spoke to someone who said that there was an official response from 2000AD on their letters page. They said that W H Smiths returned a large quantity by mistake and they got pulped. Does anyone know if this is true and which prog it appeared in? Also, does anyone from MK12 know how many progs survived?

Cheers ears.

If W H SMiths returned a large quantity by mistake, would that explain why USA readers were also left short?

Possibly some shrewd time-traveller and a get rich quick scheme has a few thousand copies stored in his attic, all bagged and boarded, to be sold off at his leisure.

Hey Tharg! I've got this idea for a Time Twister where a disgruntled message boarder who shall not be named builds this time machine...

Or some crime syndicate in Mega City One does the job, using (well established) time travel methods, to come back and swamp the lucrative "Old Comic Selling" criminal underworld with genuine ultra-rare Prog 1208s!

C'mon, it's gotta be worth an episode at least! John? Gordon? Garth even?

Ha! I knew that'd get a laugh if nothing else :o)

Well, I'm not sure why anyone should bother writing his e-bay copy for him.  This is just about selling a few more prog 1208's from his stockpile at extortionate rates to fans.

Remember collaborators are traditionally shot, and the whole point of this exercise is to eventually make money from speculating on 2000AD prices.  Adn as I suspect you won't be getting a cut, why do his work for him?
