Harlem Heroes

No, not the crappy Michael Fleischer version from the early '90s. I'm talking about the there-in-prog-1 original Harlem Heroes.

Can anyone tell me any of the Heroes' names, other than team captain 'Giant' Clay? Also, can anyone remember the names of any of the teams they played against?

All answers much appreciated. Except wrong ones, of course.

Most of them were killed off in one story, but there was Slim and Hairy (fnar).

i remember a few from the Inferno story line, not sure if its exactly what your after, as i cant remember how it differed from Harlem Heroes...

moody bloo, slim, louis, that dude on a bike regal eegle, zack.
only team i remember them playing was the sharks. got a few early progs to hand, can have a look through them for you if you like.

No, Harlem Heroes and aeroball stories only, thanks. None of the later Inferno stuff, good as it was.

Louis was the guy who ended up as a brain in a jar, or a head on a post, or something.

The bad guy was Artie Gruber.

That's all I remember.

Name's escape me but there was the dude who had a bit of an accident and ended up a brain in a jar and then became the errr 'brains' of the team...

And they drove around in a huge 'areobus' thing that featured in one of those cool cutaways

The original team that appeared in prog 1:

Captain John 'Giant' Clay, father of Judge John 'Giant' Clay Jnr and grandfather of 'Giant' Dormer (I assume that's his real name, anyway. Unless Giant and Adele Dormer were secretly married, too...)

'Hairy', centre blocker.

Louis Mayer, brain-in-a-jar guy.

'Slim', striker.

Three other guys killed in the road smash.

Later members:

Conrad King, apparently another striker.

Zack Harper, another striker.

'Chico', a reserve.

As the story was written by Tom Tully, there was probably characters called 'Red' Rogan and 'Jaws' Jensen in there somewhere, too.

Opponents included the Greek City Gladiators and the Baltimore Bulls.

Incidentally, Gordon, does the latest Judge Giant have a first name? It's never been mentioned in the strip, but is there some character outline somewhere that names him somewhere or something?
