Oh Lawdy.

Lots of people are telling me about the adds on Channel Four for Garth Marenghi, probably Britain's greatest horror writer of the 20th century (after Hutson and Herbert maybe).

I saw his act (Garth Marenghi's Fright Night) twice at the Edinbrough comedy festival and it was great.  If you like or dislike horror (or even don't have much of an opinion, then it's worth a watch.

Unfortunately no-one knows when its on...

Devons Daddy

this chap had an exhibition of his work once on blackpools golden mile.
it was one of those back of an upstairs arcade horror walk through style exhibits.
lots of stuff from his movies.props, pictures,
clips etc.i did  not know who he was.
circa 92 or 93 i think it was.

i had not heard of him before nor since till these threads.
I AM VERY BUSY!

That's cos he's the Perrier Comedy Award winning creation of comedian Matthew Holness.

Wish I'd gone the following year and seen Netherhead as well now.

Thanks toi the C4 web page I still don't know if this will be a one-off, a series, or when it's on.

From the ads it looks to me like a one-off.  Holness (who I believe is related to (son of?) the great Bob Holness, the first man to play James Bond and blockbusters quizmaster) has already started on other projects and is rumoured to be fairly bored with Marenghi.  It's like when Simon Munnery abandoned Alan Parker Urban Warrior before doing the big TV series - silly man.

paulvonscott

Well, he's been doing Garth for at least 5 years before it hits the TV screens, so you'd expect that.

It's be a shame if he abandoned him though, I reckon he'll be really popular.

GordonR

Whatever happened to Simon Munnery?  I remember seeing his Urban Warrior show years ago in some tiny little venue at the Edinburgh Festival.

Quirkafleeg

Last saw Mummery doing his League against Tedium(?) thing very late night on BBC2 a couple of years ago... checked out his web page at the time and he seemed very cynical and pissed off over the impossibility to do anything interesting on the telly (see also TMWRNJ). Presume he's now jacked it in.

Dudley

No, he's not jacked it in - actually had quite a successful Edinburgh this year with a sort of jaded character called, erm, "Simon Munnery", which he absolutely insists is a character and not just himself despite the complete one-to-one resemblance of names, looks, dress sense, politics, blah...

I saw a preview of that show headlining a comedy night. I got about 5 people along on the basis of "see genius's new show"...and he stunk the place out.

He's also touring occasionally with "Buckethead", which is him lying onstage, with a bucket over his head, talking through it into a microphone.

A mate of mine got him to revive "Alan parker" for a one-off, and it's still great.

Art

I think he's a regular feature at the comedy nights at the pub round the cprner form where I work.

I imagine that if you had a Garth Marenghi Watch, it would tell you.

Well, I was there, where were you?

I'm not ashamed to say I shat myself at the full frontal terror that was on the screen before me.

Not since Sapphire and Steel have I seen such a classy exposition of fear stamped upon my frontal lobes and even then, Dark Place was substantially more scary than the episode where there was a man with no face.

I'm off to clean myself up, I'll probably be doing the same next week.  Terror has that effect on me, but then who isn't allergic to mind numbing fear?

As Dean Learner said 'It's the most significant TV event since Quantum Leap, and I don't say that lightly'

A Good Shite Night Fright to you all...
