Mr D

I know this isn't strictly related, but there are quite a few fans round here, so I thought you might like to know (if you don't already)

Both shows were cancelled by the US TV network Fox. Futurama was treated badly from Season 2 onwards, often being cancelled in favour of football and not shown again unlike The Simpsons etc.
This meant they had a solid backlog of episodes to show, and thought the show would survive on reruns and what they had left. Matt Groening was blocked from making more, and also blocked from making his movie trilogy like he wanted.

HOWEVER, Cartoon Network have got the rights to show Futurama episodes, and if they can get the rights to NEW Futurama episodes then they'll make them. However at the moment these still rest with bloomin' Fox. However this could change in the next few months - so Futurama may not be dead!

Now, on an EVEN MORE positive note, Family Guy

The show drew ok ratings (generally seen as a Simpsons rip-off) and it wasn't till after it was cancelled and it came out on DVD that sales EXPLODED as people realised just how fantastic, surreal and original it was. It's series are some of the biggest selling DVDs ever in both the UK and US, and almost the best selling TV show DVDs ever in both countries too.

Fox contacted Seth Macfarlene and comissioned an entire new series, with options on 3 more. This makes it the first TV show ever to be cancelled and then resurrected on the strength of DVD sales! In a recent episode with Seth Green (Chris Griffin) he revealed that they had been working on them since last Autumn. Family Guy will be back at the end of the year!

Thats it... I'll be quiet again now!

Woo!

Didn't think much of family guy, but I'd like to see Futurama back.

Richmond Clements

Love them both.
We are also to get a proper release of Family Guy on dvd, with the commentaries and things they saw fit to leave off the original UK release.

thinky

i loved family guy and was completely unaware of it being on DVD... consider it sourced

Steamboy

yes, more Futurama and family guy. They didn't even run it for a whole season befor canning it over here...poxy arse mother f*$#@!?.  What kind of a time is 11.30pm for quality TV like Farscape, condemns it befor it gets out of the blocks. oh but on the good news we get our own versions(after having to put up with yours and the US's)Queer Eye, What not to Wear, we get MOre Idol, popstars, changing rooms, great ideas, The block, arrgh!!!!!!!!! must kill TV producers....must kill..........kill...kill...kill

CU Krestel(can you tell i dont like reality TV)

Jared Katooie

Still, Joe Millionaire though. They showed the English version before the American one was shown on (Urgh...) T4...

WoD

Family Guy is excellent, the one ep where Lois and Griffin were protesting about the decay in morality in society (associated with licking the backs of dope providing toads) while getting kitted up in bondage outfits had me in fits.

Glad to see it's getting a reprieve.

Tex Hex

On a slight tangent -

>>...(Urgh...) T4..

Does anyone know why June Sarpong has a job on the telly? Ive wondered this ever since she first appeared. Its like shes perpetually stoned. Is she the producers daughter or something?

We have a childrens TV presenter over here who's like that too except she appears to be even further gone, asking bizarre questions and making rather unusual remarks while live on telly.

There's actually a very good reason why Family Guy sold so many copies (over a million, IIRC): price. Being able to get entire seasons for just over ?20 *before* any discounts is excellent, and pisses all over the likes of ?40+ for South Park, Futurama and others.

But if your a real fan and have bought the separate DVD's with no extras wouldn?t you be pissed off if now you can get the http://www.blackstar.co.uk/video/item/7000000083825> Family Guy Compendium which features all 50 episodes, plus a bonus disc of special features.

Dunk!

Family Guy was great, but haven't seen that many episodes due to scheduling.

FUTURAMA is - dare i say it - brilliant!

Amazon Woman in the Mood; being the highlight episode for me.

"Ah Gawd you're killing me...AH GAWD YOU'RE KILLING ME"

Would be great to see it resurrected.

Tulkas (quoting SCI-FI shows - how far have i fallen?)
"Trust we"

JTurner

Tulkas - I just saw that episode the other day, brilliant.

I never got into family guy, but Futurama is, if anything, more original than the Simpsons. Though this could be just down to it being on so often. Futurama saturation would kill it.
