Damned if I can remember now!  Its on  very low budget, something about a girl who lives in a circus, but her life is not  good.  There may be a gateway to another world I think.

I think Mckean is directing it for nothing as well, just to get the chance at doing a movie.  Its all part of the same deal, Gaiman offered to write it when he found out that it was for Mckean.  I'm sure someone else here will remember the title.

You can definitely tell that with Dark Crystal, which has had a few releases on DVD already. I still don't understand why this got slated at the time, and why it did so badly. The environment in the movie is amazing (watch it one time and check out all the things going on in the background - that world is *alive*) and the plot is pretty good, as far as these things go.

i suspect if it had come out these days, it would have done much better - after all, many supposed "kids" things (particularly animation) are more aimed at adults than children, and most of the critics understand this.

Trouty your right:
Gonzo!
I appreciate his single-minded lunacy.

Also Beaker, the Swedish chef and Waldorf and Statler except you missed out the unfunny one: Ronald Regan

Huff
DDT did a job on me

Grant Goggans

Zoot, Beaker and Lou Zealand.  "Hey, Mister The Frog!  Do you have room this week for me and my boomerang fish?!"

And Statler and Waldorf, of course.  The episode where they heckle Milton Berle off the stage is side-splitting.

Queen Firey-Bou

heh.

i remember the anamatronic bad guys from the dark crystal were pretty new & pretty damn scary at the time, didnt they appear on wogan or whatever chat show? maybe it was blue peter..

Brian Froud, involved in the design of this film, was one of my fave artists at the time, i had a hard time convincing tutors at art college that this was a valid subject matter for art history essays.. fuck em. froud worked on books with Alan Lee who if i've got my names right was one of the designers on LOTR. anyone know what happened to froud? i never heard anymore after the dark crystal.

Found the stuff I was on about - the Dave Mckean movie that is - on the IMDB.  It's called MirrorMask and basically it says the following:

MirrorMask centers on Helena, a 15 year old girl in a family of circus entertainers, who often wishes she could run off and join real life. After a fight with her parents about her future plans, her mother falls quite ill and Helena is convinced that it is all her fault. On the eve of her mother's major surgery, she dreams that she is in a strange world with two opposing queens, bizarre creatures, and masked inhabitants. All is not well in this new world - the white queen has fallen ill and can only be restored by the MirrorMask, and it's up to Helena to find it. But as her adventures continue, she begins to wonder whether she's in a dream, or something far more sinister.

So there ya go.

Gamian was on with Jonathon Ross, and talked at length about it. The interview is probably still on the BBC website.

Dark Crystal. I loved the Landstriders. Cool and creepy at the same time.http://habidabad.com/images/landstriders_2.JPG">

Heh. I like the Muppet of 'Angel'. The Muppet Show was great. So was Sesame Street in the days when Grover, not Telly was the 'viewer identification character'. Ernie and Bert were my favourite characters on that.

My favourite muppets were the ones that seemed imbued with human warmth. Gonzo was one, and Rolf the piano playing dog was another. On the other side of the coin, Waldorf and Stadtler made me laugh a lot.

I don't know the name of the female member of the Dr. Teeth band, but she played the part of Nurse Janice in Veterinarian's Hospital.
STRIKE !!!
